Starting to think that sonisphere may end up being cancelled this year.

With Download going strong with their announcements and Reading taking two of the bands rumoured to be at sonisphere (Green Day and Foo Fighters), is it likely that sonisphere have struggled to get anything together this year.

That's not true, not only have they got Queen they've also got Adam Lambert!!!

as I've already posted, the announcement is (I think*) next week.
* I say "I think" because I was told it was set for two weeks time, but I can't remember off the top of my head if I was told that lasdt week ort the week before.

Not really, there's plenty of bands out there with no UK/EU plans so far...as for Download being strong, I disagree, they've got a couple of strong bands, the rest is just repeats and boring bands that played in 2010 and play here every year...I really wanted to go when Sabbath and then Soundgarden were announced but the rest of the line up is putting me off, massively. As for Reading, they don't have anyone yet, it's all rumours, so bit hard to judge...

Who says Green Day are at Reading? I thought it was only Foos who were nailed on. Isn't there (supposedly) something to suggest Green Day will never play R&L again??

Gigwise have leaked Foos, Prodigy & Green Day are headlining R&L this year and people still believe it's true.
Most people reckon Green Day are unlikely as they don't like comprising their shows for fest, like shorter set times etc.

When do reading announce their line up?

Still got the likes of Faith no More (repeat), Kiss (repeat), RATM (Repeat)..... most bands are repeats, just be happy with what you get!

can't see them letting download get this far without having something big. evanescence, papa roach and loads of others could play yet.

Because most have played download recently.
I read a lot of people moaning about seeing the same bands all the time... who cares!
And I don't really think you can consider bands that played DL recently a repeat from the Soni perspective.

Their are people who go festivals every year, they'll get to to the point where they've seen almost everyone.... yet they still bitch and moan that there not getting their own way!

This is it. The pool from which soni and dl pick their bands isn't deep enough to moan about bands being repeats when they've played other festivals. Now those bands returning after the hype has died down with no new material is the issue.
All I can say is thank fuck for reunions eh!

hardygra, on 01 February 2012 - 07:19 PM, said:Yes. I go to up to 6/year (depending on your definition of festival). If I've seen a band before and they've been great, then I'll see them again, if I didn't like them, I won't. Problem is, with DL/Soni, there's a much smaller pool of headliners than for most festivals. They've got to be major acts, and they've got to fit into rather narrow genre restrictions. Smaller festivals have a far larger range of choice, as do festivals that showcase a greater variety of genres.Their are people who go festivals every year, they'll get to to the point where they've seen almost everyone.... yet they still bitch and moan that there not getting their own way!

I don't mind repeats, when justified, like new albums and the likes, or if they are back by demand, but if most of the line up is just bands that played a year or two ago then there's not much point in returning is there? Obviously it's all down to opinion though, if the bands are repeats and bands I don't like, then I'm not going to be happy, am I? If it's bands I like then I'll be less fussed, but even if the festival had all bands I like but half or more of the line up was repeats, I'd be miffed.
Faith No More haven't done a UK show since 2009, that's 3 years, and even then that was on a fairly short reunion tour where they just did 2 festivals, one small Scottish date, and one Small Irish date, so they aren't exactly over-exposed are they?

Ah knew I forgot somewhere, but even still, you can't really call them over-exposed in any sense, they were gone for bloody ages
