The happy mondays are playing Glasgow in May and i think they are a dead cert to play T now.

Lol it seems like it
Having tour dates two months before a festival does not rule them out in the slightest, its very easy to tour then play a festival as a one off show, usually for greatest hits, unlike tour which is usually for newest album (talking about bands in general here not particularly New Order)

Fingers crossed this rules them out then!

They aren't the same band without Peter Hook, and wouldn't deserve anything better than a King Tuts headline slot.
I much prefer Joy Division's material to New Order any day.

A few years again Snow Patrol had a huge gig in June (I think) and they still played T in the July.
They didn't announce them until majority of the tickets for their own gig had sold so maybe do the same with New Order and Happy Mondays

True but they also weren't the same band without Gillian.
I know she isn't held in the same regard, but for me she is every bit as integral to that band as hooky. There is something missing when she isn't there, maybe not so much in terms of pressence but definetely in terms of musical performance. I think she holds it together.
Anyway, there are 2 issues with new order. Money and Ego. I'm pretty certain they will play.

I think there is a lot of reasons they would get less of a slot.
Its not like they haven't played in ten years
hooky not there
their reputation as being a pretty bad live band
the fact they are playing Glasgow in May
I'd also expect them to play every other festival they can this summer.
And whisper it, they are not as big as they were. (from a massive new order fan)

I've seen them play pissed on NYE. It was fun, but dreadful.
I've seen them play with hooky but without Gillian. They were going thru the motions.
But I've also seen the original four put in the most stunningly tight set in front of the most disinterested crowd, and I was blown away by it.

Tbh, its also my experience on the whole. But I also find that folks I know who haven't seen them are under the impression that they are terrible live. Nothing I say can convince them otherwise.
Similarily, I have friends who saw the stone roses on Glasgow Green try and convince me they were brilliant live. I believe they probably were, but am under the impression that gig was a rare performance.

Great post and spot on. I've seen them twice and both times they were excellent. I've never seen them play with all four original members (Gillian was not in the band at the time) but she's back now. Obviously Hooky is pretty core to New Order but if he's going to be a twat then so be it. I certainly wouldn't touch them without Barney being there though.
Incredible back catalogue, one of the best of any band still performing these days.

Was trying to get over to the Brussels gig last year, all reports I've heard have been that they are on outstanding form. A lot of the tunes reworked and as tight as.
Anyway got my ticket this morning.
I have no doubt I will see them at least twice at festivals this summer but my heart ruled my head and I got one anyway.

Yeah, tbh if they play the same set I wouldn't care but I am hoping that the set list will be a little different for the gig. This appears to be their favoured setlist.
