We all now know that M.Eavis wants to try and get to the festivals 50th anniversary in 2020, who do you see headlining the festival/ or want to see headlining the from now until then.....
I see the following....
Lady Gaga
Radiohead
Kasabian
Biffy Clyro
Elbow
The Killers
Jay Z
Dizzee Rascal
Rolling Stones
Noel Gallagher
Arctic Monkeys
Led Zep
Arcade Fire

Great post! I'd be there no matter what, but I would like to see Gaga & Mr. Rascal out of the ones you mentioned. Wouldn't be too fussed but I'm sure Arcade Fire would be amazing if I listened to a few of their albums after ticket day.
I can't see it but Pendulum have a chance... probably on Other though.

The Stones would still be good but they'd better get in quick as by 2020 .......
As for other oldies I'd like to see The Who put in a final appearance and Fleetwood Mac.
Probably a fair few of the bands who'll be around in 2020 haven't even got going.

Its not totally obvious where they're going to come from at present. Agree, Gaga and Dizzee both are more than likely to headline over the next few years. Stone Roses have a very good chance if they can keep it together. If Blur, as rumoured, start releasing new material then they're in with a shout. Still think the Foos will headline one day. Seems a bit wrong that they haven't done so far. Muse will probably get another one in there at some point. Wouldn't suprise me if he tries to get Rhianna in at somepoint. And who knows, with Madge making her comeback at the superbowl next week, could she finally do the pyramid?
There are a few bands who are a couple of good albums away from it right now. So if they can keep it up then bands like Wild Beasts and Bombay Bicycle club are in with a chance.

Led Zep aint ever gonna happen I dont think. Everyone should just get over it and move on.

Not a massive fan, but considering they're playing Alexandra Palace, and sell a lot of their gigs out, Maccabees must be in with a shout?

I think Black Keys are easily a possibility.

Foals. A bit ambitious but regularly stamped as one of Britain's best live bands and if they keep their output at the same level of quality and frequency, it could happen within the next 8 years.

Oh i forgot about them. Yeah, their last album was brilliant and they are an amazing live band. If they put out a strong third album then they could quite easily get the nod.

In that time frame is anyones case
but people I'd like to see and could get a chance at the big pyramid slot:
Franz Ferdinand!!! (I am a rediculously big fan and have high hopes they will climb the ladder once more, but could just stay other stage headliner size)
Biffy Clryo (Its going happen amazing live, much loved, just need to get that little bit bigger)
Arcade Fire( Won't be the first fest to give them the break anymore but another ridiculously good band that deserves the big P)
Kasabian (I am covert to them recently, but will happen with another big album and tour)
Chase & Status (Wide appeal, very good live, if they keep up the last two albums work will become a very credible headliner)
Dizziee Rascal (Bound to happen)
and ofc the likes of Muse, Coldplay, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys will probs all get another shot at it.
These are all fairly near the top and obvious really chancers to make the breakthrough to the big slot

Such a shame but Maccabees, Foals or Black Keys will never realistically headline before 2020.
I mean... headlining Glasto is a fucking big deal.

I think if The Black Keys can keep up the momentum they have just now they could be headline worthy (no pun intended) a few years down the line. I could certainly see them reaching White Stripes size.

Jeff Beck (anywhere on the bill would be nice).
Bowie
David Gilmour (though I think he's still a bit cross with Glasto).
Roger Waters
Both of the above with a certain drummer (Rumoured for The Olympics, but so are Led Zep, fantasising journalists maybe methinks)
Rush (unlikely, but I think they would make a great West Holts headliner)
Metallica
Mind you, that lot's probably more wishful thinking than likely.
If Noel Gallaghers next album has as many earworms as the current one I think he's a cert.
Surely The Foos at some point.

So what would you say you have to do to headline? Foals I'd say are probably the least likely, purely because they have the least all round appeal. However I like them the most out of the three, and would love them to headline. They're probably the least advanced in terms of position to headline out of the three, but I'd imagine bookers are eyeing them up for the Alexandra Palace etc. slots soon. They've had two top ten records, so if they bring out at least two more and capitalise on those, then who knows?
However, Maccabees, who are being judged to be the "new Coldplay" (god help them) are having number one records, and playing the biggest venues in the country. In eight years, they can bring out at least two new records, three possible. If they get another decently selling record, with commercial next time around, i've no doubt they'll be pushed up to arenas.
With regards to Black Keys, they're easily likely. They're very much in a K.O.L-ish position at the moment, but stronger than they were at this time in their career. They're headlining some of the biggest festivals in the world, their records are getting critically lauded, they have a big fan base. Their work rate is pretty extraordinary, they've brought out seven records in nine years, so they could easily do another three or four.
Of course it's a fucking big deal, but I think you're understimating how close these bands are to being able to be at the top. I'm also interested in what you believe you need to headline Glasto? A big fanbase, which they all have? Good sales, which they all have, and look a decent shout to be able to capitalise on? Playing big venues, which they are doing and will do more in the future? As well as this, look at Arctics, in just under 18 months, they went from releasing their debut record, to headlining Glasto.
If you look at K.O.L, they hadn't even released their debut record eight years before headlining, and some of these acts especially Black Keys, are in a much stronger position then that.
Obviously all the bands at the top of the page and mentioned throughout have a very good chance.

Black Keys have a sell out UK tour, bar a couple of seats left in Nottingham. They are headlining arguably the second biggest festival in the
in the world and they are only going to get bigger.
I would argue they are about as big as Arcade Fire were before they played Reading in 2010. I reckon Black Keys could be headlining reading by about 2014/2015 and then Glastonbury by 2018, if not before.

I just don't honestly see it, but sounds like I'm wrong about the bands having a small fan base. Perhaps I'm just out of touch with them though am a fan of Foals, just seems the attention that The Black Keys & Maccabees are getting has been quite recent so looks like I am underestimating them.

Well you are a fan of the Wombats and Enter Shikari...

Enter Shikari isn't really a Glasto band but they are being touted as possible NME headliners which is pretty impressive. Would love it if Elbow got a shot, they deserve it after seeing them at Glasto/Reading last summer (watching the BBC highlights again).Well you are a fan of the Wombats and Enter Shikari...

Would love to see Foos headline but I just dont think M.Eavis sees them as a Glasto band, same as Pearl Jam really. I think he might take a chance on QOTSA at some point before the 50th anniversary though.

People suggesting Maccabees & Foals are insane. Yeah they're good live, and pretty popular, but headline Glastonbury? Not a chance. Black Keys however, they wouldn't be far off. Probably need another two albums with 2/3 more successful singles though.
