How easy is it to get a camping pitch at Download? I'm all for coming on the Wednesday, but my mates want to come down on Friday. Will we get a decent camping spot that late, or is it like Glasonbury where if you're not there early you're going to spend 5 hours aimlessley wandering looking for a pitch, give up and sleep in a puddle?
Thanks in advance

Last year was my first year. We got there Wednesday night and there was still a bit of space about.
However they do hold fields back and don't open them till the Friday morning so it would be possible to move your tent into one of these fields and have plenty of room for all of you and your friends.

Id say get there as early as possible. Otherwise you'll be camped far back, very far back.
I get there Wednesday Morning, but you end up queueing for a long time to get in. On a whole though I recommend arriving Wednesday, if you arrive Friday just for the bands, you miss a big chuck of the atmosphere, I love Wednesday and Thursday, the anticipation everyone has, and atmosphere is buzzing.

Wednesday is by far the best day to arrive, even if you are on your own.it's just pot luck where you would be able to get on Friday, but i would guess you would be right at the very back. One year i could only get there at tea time Friday and it was an absolute nightmare finding even a space for a 2 man tent.

If you're not fussed where you camp, and there aren't many of you (so no trying to find space for ten tents together or anything daft like that) you will be fine. Arriving on Friday means you will be in one of the back campsites, which are quite a trek from everything! (Quieter too if you like that sort of thing!)
