I personally think the Kerrang! thing saying its unbelievable is exaggeration, because I really can't think of anyone that is really 'unbelievable' except maybe 'Queen' to an extent, but I don't think that's truly unbelievable. Unless it is Led Zep, which would be absolutely insane :P but it isn't them, it can't be, surely :P?

The fact it's unbeleivable is either a very subjective opinion based comment, or a comment based on someone playing that you wouldn't expect.

Personally, you couldn't pay me to watch some of the bands rumoured however others might think those bands would make a great line up.

Yeah it went Metallica (which we found out the night before, and that was only after Metallica and Radio 1 said they had festival news so everyone had already put 2 and 2 together).  Then the night Metallica were announced, they posted we'd get another announcement the next day, which was of course Sabbath, and then Prodigy came out of nowhere on a Thursday afternoon as luckysalt says.  So their first 3 announcements, at most, had a warning the night before,  with no real PR building/hype, and I imagine Sonisphere will do the same, as it's what they've also done in the past.  It was only really the latest undercard announcement that got a date, and that was only a weeks notice too.

To be fair the last announcement was declared well in advance, they said straight after Prodigy it would be middle of January and another in Feb, which has been brought forward to 30th Jan, even though they haven't 100% confirmed it will be 30th but its 99%

Well yeah, true, but it wasn't given a solid date till then, just like the sonisphere announcement has been January for a month, and end of january for 3 weeks now :P

I get what you mean. Personally I would never want to watch Van Halen, Rush or Tool, whereas others would be loving those bands to be playing. We'll just have to see what comes out :)

Download got out of the traps early. Soni's not exactly announcing late.

I didnt say people were saying they dont belong at soni, I said people didnt think they were big enough. my argument is that they are way bigger than biffy, so its quite conceivable that they could headline
They aren't. Placebo haven't done much of note for a few years now whereas Biffy Clyro have properly broke into the mainstream in the last year or so and are on the cusp of being massive.

Edit: Just noticed that I appear to have skipped two pages - I presume this discussion has already been had?

If Placebo got announced and they were playing Without You Im Nothing in full, THAT would be headliner worthy, thing is their sets are too current and they just don't play enough classics. I was lucky enough to see them on the tour for that album though and the Black Market Music tour and Ive seen them more recent and for me they're a shadow of their former selves.

The Meds tour was nothing but new stuff and like 1 classic. For long time fans think its a bit of a kick in the balls.

They mixed it up quite a bit at Soni 2010, which was nice, more than I was expecting anyways considering they BFTS out..or just about to come out - I can't recall :P

I loved Battle for the Sun. And Meds is a grower. I found it boring the first few listens, but after hearing the songs live I enjoyed it more.

I've seen them a few times in the past 2 years. After a bit of a blip, they've really reignited. Soni 18 months ago was one of their weaker performances I've seen recently. They're playing a fair few classics as well. 25 song sets with 10 off the 1st 3 albums, 14 off the last 2. Doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

What is said above 25 song set with 10 from 1st 3 is decent, but they haven't done that when I saw them last which was the Meds tour. Id be happy with that.

Still think if they did WYIN in full then a lot of people would want to see that

They'll always be some classics they miss out, but if you're counting album proportions, it's been perfectly respectful towards their older stuff. After a period of seemingly being fed up of the songs, they've played Nancy Boy and Pure Morning at times. They're not guaranteed songs, but they might be played. I imagine it'll drop to 7/8/9 from 1st 3 with a 7th album getting released, but they seemed to have struck the right balance between showcasing their new songs and playing classics for the crowd.

Yeah, I imagine a lot of people would, but I suspect that will be left for a bit, they'll have a new album to play first, and they're not completely neglecting the songs on it.

Biffy are better headline material at this moment in time in this country. They may be media darlings but that's an attractive thing for festival promotors, they like to see potential ticket sales and interest (whether it's deserved or not).

LostProphets announcing something on monday...

Lostprophets have announced a UK tour with tickets going on sale this Friday so I doubt they are being announced for Sonisphere this week, if at all there is any announcement, its very quiet on the Sonisphere Twitter.

Well it at least looks real from a design stand point. Usually a poster gets put up that looks like Stevie Wonder designed it and everyone asks if it's real. This at least looks real.

Still wondering how kerrangs 'you'll never guess who they have playing' would fit into this line up though.

that was based on a template someone on the official forums made in 2011, I would be really happy with that lineup, but its obviously fake.

oh, and welcome to the board Charles

Agreed - the design looks spot on but aren't coheed and killswitch having 'band problems' atm??

Apart from that it looks pretty good and i'd be happy with that line up.

I agree with biffoire though .... noting 'unbelievable' here, but then one mans 'unbelievable' is anothers 'whatever'!

Only time will tell!
