Planning on getting tickets for Coachella weekend 2 tomorrow when they go on sale!!!

Anyone else from the UK going or have been before?

Flying to LA on the Wed return flights are £409, would be rude not to!!

Planning on camping with a hire car, anyone else doing Coachella?

Lets get some tips/info on here

I have got car camping and have found a 5 person campervan that'll fit in the spot for $560 to hire from Friday to the Monday from https://www.jurnii.com. Considering doing that as accom is so expensive for both weekends....

I live in OC (South of LA - i.e. "Disneyland") and I will be going to Weekend 2 as well.
I've never been to Coachella (odd I know, to have been to Glasto...but not the festival in my own backyard.)

But, a lot of really cool folks helped me out here for my Glastonbury trip in 2010.  So, if can return the favor with any advice I would be glad to try and help.  As a "local" if I can help with camping stores, restaurants, sightseeing suggestions, directions and that sort of stuff feel free to ask!

I'd have never had such a great time at Glasto without the help from the folks here...so, this feels like a way to give a little something back for that help.

No matter what, have a great trip and a great time at the show!

We have accomodation based in Palm Springs that sleeps 6.
3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms garden, pool, towels, barbque, works out cheaper than a hotel if there is a few of you..check it out here http://www.facebook....2812209?sk=info

$ 325.00 per night with a 3 night minimum (4th night free) for holiday and special event weekends, i.e. Coachella, White Party, Dinah Shore, Stagecoach etc.

$1,375.00 per week
$3,395.00 per month

$500.00 Refundable Security Deposit
$100.00 Additional Refundable Pet Security Deposit
$150.00 Non-Refundable House Cleaning Fee
The pool can be heated for an additional fee, upon request.

The run to Coachella is pretty quick, our place is near both highway 111 [has traffic lights, can take 40 minutes] and the I10 [motorway which get you to indio in 20, and just a straight run off from there] is also easy to get to from ours - the hold ups happen more around the immediate access to the festival site.  security is mental. We went last year but was apparently it was the quickest it had ever been. We got from front door to festival in 90 minutes, which was great.

Picking up tickets if you are coming from abroad - get there early!...we got there 8.30am and it was quick, later in the day queues build up and you dont want to be queuing in 95 degree heat. The pick up point [last year anyway] isnt anywhere near the festival site. If you order VIP and preferential parking, make sure they put the permit in the box...they left our parking permit out last year and we had to drive back nearly 10 miles to go pick it up from the ticket collection point. its an actual sticker for your car. we found the ticketing thing last year really disorganised and the kids behind the counters dont have the knowledge of what is going on generally, we asked specifically about the parking permit and said the piece of paper [receipt] was enough...it wasnt!

Make sure you bring your ID when you get to festival site...you have to be over 21 to drink and it doesnt matter is you are in your 40s like us - no ID, no drinkies!

Drinking is confined to designated chain linked fenced off drinking areas, no drinking in the arena area....they are really strict on that.

Bring a hat! it hit 100 on the saturday last year, but if they havent watered the polo field, its bearable cos its a dry heat. it cooler on the sunday but was humid which completely drains you.

I didn't get a ticket in the main sale but desperate to go so looking on Viagogo etc to get one. They say the tickets will be sent 1/2 weeks before the event so should be delivered before travel.

Anyone got experience purchasing tickets this way? I take it Coachella doesn't use the Glastonbury method of names & pictures on tickets?

Hey Big JT,

Thanks for the offer :)

Wouldnt mind some tips on camping stores as we will need to buy everything when we get there, I would imagine its quite cheap in Walmart? We have asda in the UK which does tents for £10

Any other tips on LA in general as its first time in the states!

Really looking forward to it!

Hi Andre,

Sorry about the lag, I was in Vegas on a work trip and sick as well.  Ugly week, better now.

Well, off the top of my head the top notch camping stores would be REI, Sports Chalet and A16.  REI has a few stores in the area.  They are the hardcore sorts of places where you buy good quality exposition stuff.  I bought a few things for my Glasto trip at REI.

The next layer would be Dick's or Big 5.  They are bigger chain type places.  Similar to Decathalon or Blacks in the UK.  Lots of them scattered about.

Then, you have your Walmart and Target type discount stores.  The gear may not be a durable, but if it's just for a few days might be fine.  Less selection, but low prices on what they have.

I know there is a Walmart and a Target in Palm Springs, but I'm sure they will be slammed.  You might stop a bit earlier to stock up.

I'll research some locations and follow up on a note when I'm not trying to do it all on an iPhone.  The same with sightseeing ideas.

More to follow!
JT

So, here's a bit more sporting goods info:

HIGHER END SHOPS

REI
It seems the best location for you between LAX and Coachella would be this one
http://www.rei.com/stores/93
If you are taking Interstate 10 (freeway) east, you'd just have to detour a short distance up the 15 fwy to reach it.  One fun bit of trivia, it's located on the original Route 66, so you'd be able to check that you drove on Route 66 (for a few feet) off your bucket list...

One other thought, they also rent camping gear...so, maybe that would be an option for you?

SPORTS CHALET
Sports Chalet has a store in almost the same spot:
http://www.sportchal...re+locations.do

There is also a Sports Chalet in Redlands which is a bit further out the 10 and closer to the freeway.  It's on the same list.
It seems they also rent gear.

BASS PRO SHOPS
In the same area as REI and Sports Chalet (off the 15 fwy) there is a Bass Pro Shop
http://www.basspro.c...D=94&storeID=52

I've driven by, but never stopped....the thing is huge....not sure how their prices are though.

MID-RANGE SHOPS
I wasn't able to find a location for Dick's that made sense between Coachella and LAX

BIG 5
Here's a Big 5 shop located right off the 10 FWY in Fontana (which would likely be on your route)
http://big5sportingg...storeid=2503831

LOWER END SHOPS
Target and Walmart are too numerous to even try to list.  You'll find dozens of them between LAX and Coachella.

All of these stores (all types) have website and may have a system to order gear for store pick up.  That would assure you had what you wanted waiting for pick up.

Regarding site-seeing....
What are you interests, I can likely steer you a number of ways depending on what you like to do?
LA traffic can be pretty awful, so make sure you account for that when planning getting around So. Cal.

Here's a few ideas to start you off:
Beaches - Having grown up in Orange County I'm partial to the stretch of coast that runs from Huntington Beach to San Clemente.  All types of coast in that range from flat sand to rocky coves...a bit of everything.

Amusement Parks - Disney...Knotts (lower cost, less iconic...but some fun rides.)  Universal Studios (less about making movies and more about  rides and shops now) Magic Mountain, north of LA...some of the better thrill rides, but a long drive if you're not going that way.

Sports - Angels and Dodgers baseball should have started in early April...Hockey playoffs (both local teams may miss them, both have struggled this year)...Basketball Playoffs (expensive, but would be focused around Staples Center in LA)

Museums - LA Natural History Museum, Getty Museum (world class art), Norton Simon Museum, Huntington Library

Shopping - many massive shopping malls to explore.  Some unique speciality shops because the area is so huge.

Hollywood - A whole topic to itself

Graveyards - Hollywood Forever (lots of stars there), Forest Lawn (there are like three of them with various people buried there), plus a small place in Westwood that the name escapes me where Marilynn Monroe, Natalie Wood and others are buried.

Wine Tasting - South and West from Coachella is Temecula....some great wines there.

Climbing - Joshua Tree has some cool climbing and hiking spots

So, there's some stuff to get you started.
JT

No, they don't use the Glastonbury method....Although maybe they should.
It was a very fast sell out this year and it seems many scalpers got their hands on tickets.  The official Coachella board has some ticket discussions and even a guy who is tracking prices on Stubhub (a legal scalper site).

It goes without saying, be careful of scams when buying on the secondary market.  Places like Stubhub at least have some guarantees, random folks on Craigslist and E-Bay don't.

Ive already got my week planned out.
Monday Im hanging out in down town (got any recommendations for dive bars there? Im thinking the golden gopher looks fun)
Tuesday Six Flags Magic Mountain day followed by a messy one at Dim Mak Studios
Wednesday will be hanging out in Hollywood then followed by an even messier one at Low End Theory.
Then up early Thursday for the grey hound to Coachella.

I know this is geeky, but you need to know what your doing in LA. Its huge.
