It looks pretty incredible, and similar in some ways to Glastonbury.  Anyone ever been?  How does it compare?
Are the Japanese into the Stone Roses?
Can anyone lend me an couple of grand to go please? :-)

A couple of people who used review for eFestivals have been over the years, and I've interviewed a few bands who reckoned it was their favourite festival, they liked it even more than Glastonbury, as it's so serene. I think the location makes it so memorable for many, and being in japan itself with that odd mix of old tradition and ultra modernism. The Japanese seem positively frothy about any act they see by all accounts.

Whats the lineup usually like? No problem seeing over people in Japan I presume? Thats a positive. Unlike Rock Am Ring in Germany when I struggled, and I'm over 6 ft tall.

Don't the Japaneese get overly excited at everything though. I don't think I could watch the stone roses with a million photos been taking and loads of screaming people

Seriously?

Add to that some piss throwing and the odd drunken brawl and you won't be too far from the heaton park experience.

I'd rather watch the stone roses with 75,000 manc idiots than 75,000 screamig japaneese idiots taking photos. Seriously have you ever seen their fans at football?

So you're making presumptions about how a Japanese audience would act at a stone roses concert based on how excited they get during a world cup and the age old stereotype that they take lots of photos.

plonker.

And if you don't want people taking pictures then you're going to be sorely dissappointed at Heaton Park. Guarantee you half the bloody audience will spend their evening watching the gig through their iphone and digital camera.

Definite use of stereotype! By all accounts Japanese audiences get more into performances than your more static British crowds according to an act I interviewed recently - although i can't find it online just at the moment.

I don't it is been stereotypical if 99% of the people are like that. I like that they are very excited when famous teams / acts come to visit but I would hate to be there. I imagine the sound would be similar to the sound at a Wanted concert

This is hilarious. And I suppose the other 1% are sumo wrestlers?

Thinking 99% of japanese are like that is a stereotype ... here's the definition

Stereotypes are standardised and simplified conceptions of groups based on some prior assumptions.

Sound familiar?

How on earth is this quantifiable? Unless the act you interviewed is merely referring to crowd movement at the time of a performance? I've stood stock still (possibly paralysed with drugs) and mentally got right into a performance.

Getting into the act will involve 1. Screaming loudly 2. Taking loads of photos 3. hitting them sticks together

Tokyo is as absolutely sensational place. As is Japan in general. I work for a Japanese company and am lucky enough to get to visit the place every couple of years or so.

Magic place.

In fairness they do, as a race, take A LOT of photographs. And fair fucks to them.

Id love to go to Tokyo. On the "to do when I'm flush" list.

Which will probably be never. :(

I was walking around tokyo with my friend and it was october but still hot to us englishers so we had tshirts and sunglasses on (everyone else big coats) and everywhere we went people were taking our photo. I felt like a celebrity, but they probably were taking photos of the insane people wearing summer gear in winter

japanese people are ALWAYS cold

I was lucky enough to spend 3 weeks in Japan back in 2008. Favourite country in the world with Tokyo by far my favourite city. Amazing place full of amazing people.

As for Japanese crowds, I went to see the Kaiser Chiefs in Akasuka (dont judge), was fascinated by the crowds manners, they pogo'd but made sure not to push anyone about, and if they did they would apologise profusely. Shitty sterotyping by that VJ bloke if you ask me!!

If you get the opportunity go. The Japan tourist board are offering 10000 free flights next year in a bid to bolster visitors, i'm hoping the guy who gets my application loves the Roses as much as me!!
