Hello all, new to the forum and new to Kendal Calling. Basically been to Leeds Festival 4 consecutive years now and slowly but surely its got worse. First two years were brilliant, then the last two we've had problems. We always camp in Orange (if you are familiar) and its now just full of people who drink too much or take to many drugs and think its ok to act like a pleb. Im no kill-joy by any means but having things stolen and your gazebo smashed to pieces when it was lashing it down wasnt fun :(

Was seriously tempted by Kendal last year but never got around to organising it unfortunately. But this year I will attend! Ive just got a few questions...
We usually have around 12 of us, we are not quite and boring but not rowdy either, Id say were your average festival go'er who just likes a drink...

1) Upon that brief character description what site would suit us most at Kendal?

2) Can we camp next to our two tranny vans?

Thankyou in Advance :pogranichnik:

You've only really got 3 campsites (correct me if I'm wrong guys!)...and two of them are in the same field...theres a 'family' bit...and a 'general' bit. The other one is the Emperors Fields which you have to pay extra for but which I'm reliably informed you can camp by your car. Even if you don't get the Emperors tix though...ain't much of a walk from the cars to camping. I'd say about 10-15 minutes tops when you're carrying your stuff...5 minutes when you're not.

We've camped in the general camping bit the last couple of years...had some noisy bleeders outside our tent this year but you'll get that anywhere.

Having done both Reading and Kendal...Kendal is just off the scale...such a massive difference in terms of atmosphere and size. No queues at the bar (plus you've got real ale and cider tents in addition to the usual lager pish)...get round the whole site in probably 5-10 minutes....and a lot fewer dickheads than you'd find at a major festival (still the occasional pissed up teenager but they're the exception not the rule)...loads of weird shit going on at all hours

Definitely can't recommend it highly enough chap

Im hoping for James this year, will be enough to get me to go for the 1st time though I have been meaning to for last couple of years.

James would make it a no-brainer!

They're my shout for Sunday headliner...along with the Charlatans (I'm 99% sure the Charlies will be there!)

Do it anyway...

Thanks for the reply fella! Yeah really fancy it this year :)

Think Leeds Fest has just become all about getting pissed, I love a good drink but I want somewhere thats more chilled and there is more than just drinking going on.

Very happy with the sound of the real ale tent, love a nice ale. One more question, What time do tickets usually sell out?

Thanks again

if youre after emperors field tickets i would buy them before lunch on the day they go on sale, if you're just after a standard rowdy field ticket i would buy it within 6 weeks of them going on sale, im pretty sure the website will promote how well they are selling and when they are nearly sold out.

it took 2 months or so to sell out last year but i wouldnt chance it this year, i bet 4 to 6 weeks will see them all gone in record time. They run a deposit scheme usually so its not as if you've got to shell out the full amount on day 1 anyway

Yeah...I know what you mean. They can still be brilliant on their day but have a tendancy to change how they play their songs (like Dylan) which is a bit of a pisser when you're trying to sing along

Thats what it should be about...having a good beer, listening to some quality tunes, meeting new people and having a laugh without acting like a tool.

Ive already got Crooked Ways, Coldplay, Stone Roses, Benicassim, V Festival, possibly Galtres festival and Bingley Music Live lined up for the summer.  Im running out of friends to keep up with me!  But James would persuade some of my mates to come I am sure!

Saw the Charlatans at Galtres Festival last year, lot of people complained they were very miserable and didnt do an encore.  i was pretty pissed but still enjoyed them, wouldnt have a problem seeing them again.

Example are probs just on the boundary of what they could afford as a headliner , I would love to see massive attack but Fridays are always fresh !
Saturday mixed bag I would expect the Inspiral carpets at some point on Saturday maybe same time slot as charlatans last year plus don't rule out Cast.
Example has just announced he is doing 30 fests this year.
Plus if you follow the pattern of previous years T in the park have similar acts on there line up lower down so at the mo I can't see any word on the KC line up until T announces first could be first Friday in march!

it was around march they announced the headline acts and a few more last year, another act that may have a shout as friday night slot are rizzle kicks. Not sure how much material they have to do a headline slot though.

I see kendal have announcee that some major news will be released within 2 weeks. Who knows, we may get a headliner announcement that coincides with the ticket release date.

Thats quite good timing...get paid next Friday!

That said...only got the early entry and Emperor's Fields tickets to get.

Last minute predictions then...going for

Friday - Example
Saturday - Black Keys/Vaccines
Sunday - James/Charlatans

Is anyone heading down for the thursday this year ? we went down for the thursday last year and were debating what to do this year, was quite conventient getting settled in and sorted, however there was only really the monsterous garden area open and the lighting at night to that area was non existant. Still considering doing it again this year to stretch the festival out another day or so !

Yeah...we definitely are. Love getting there a day early so you're all set ready for the first bands on the Friday. Good to just have a nice wander round and scope stuff out.

Plus...I don't think I'd be able to relax at home knowing people were already there enjoying themselves
