V getting bad?

This year at Weston seemed really bad. So many drunk twats acting like knobs (normally happens, seems like more)
Little kids in groups drinking, bashing into our tent, shouting all through the night puking everywhere... Thats what you get for having Eminem and other chavvy acts.
I felt intimidated all weekend, scared to sleep in case someone fell through our tent. So we left 6pm on Sunday. Parking 3 miles from the nearest campsite didn't help, poorly planned. Lugging a 4 man tent, bag with clothes and food etc isnt fun and knackered us out for the first day. This is the 4th V and never experienced this before.
Good music and atmosphere in the arena, SHIT campsite

Arriving was a bit of a nightmare for us, as we didn't get to V until 11pm on the Friday night, and had to lug all our gear all the way through blue, orange then red to get there. Those campsites were total carnage, so I can see why people didn't enjoy them. This year at Weston seemed really bad. So many drunk twats acting like knobs (normally happens, seems like more)

I thought the festival itself was pretty good. Didn't come into contact with too many chavs, other than when we watched the first half of example's set. Really enjoyed Cast, Kids in Glass Houses, Good Charlotte, Kaisers, Manics, Lostprophets and Razorlight. I thought Eminem, Rihanna, Example and Pendulum were ok, although way too busy though. Arctics looked good, but we just watched them from way at the back so we could make a quick exit from the site once they finished. We left V there and then (we'd packed all our stuff into the car earlier on that day) quite happy with the weekend overall. Really enjoyed one of the meals we got from V Healthy, and chatted to plenty friendly people during the weekend.
In terms of the piss/drink throwing I got soaked once (Kaisers), and a bit wet a few other times, but didn't really care too much. If everyone just stood there doing nothing while the bands played it would be kinda boring after all.

Wow - couldn't agree more Oxfordmark - was just about to post practically the same post!
I've been going to V for a good couple of years now and can honestly say I've never felt more vunerable / scared as I did on the Sunday night in Gold campsite (which is meant to be one of the quiet ones!). Camped up behind a bunch of lads who were openly dealing drugs day and night, constantly played music the whole of Saturday night - but thought it was probably time to turn it off at 8am on the Sunday morning - meaning no sleep whatsoever for us there just to enjoy the bands and have a laugh with our mates.
On Sunday night - there were tents on fire, constant noise and shadows passing by our tents all night - I daren't go to sleep for fear of being set alight or having some kn*b fall / try to get into my tent. One of our group (a 19 old girl - first time festival goer) was awoke by one someone actually unzipping her tent and shaking her leg to see if she had any drugs to sell!!!! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!
What's happened to V? I know they can't help who buys their tickets, but surely there must be better policing of the campsite maybe asking people to keep it down a bit and generally keeping a bit of order.
Oh and I personally thought the the line up was poor - too many 'pop' and 'rap' acts for my liking - tho thought Cast, Kaisers, Arctics, FLC and dare I say The Wanted and Example got good vibes going. Will definately be waiting to see who's on next year before purchasing my ticket in early bird offer.
Apart from that....I enjoyed it!

Completely disagree with you. We camped in orange, I have done the last 4 years now and it was awful this year. A girl camped next to us had two dickheads jump on top of her tent whilst she was asleep and stamp on it (and her) until all the poles were broke and tent ripped. They just laughed and ran off. I felt so sorry for the girl I let her sleep in our tent. Also saw people get thrown out of orange on the Fri night because they were fighting. Saturday night more people were kicking off, a lad nearly punched a girl until the security came over and stopped them. Thats not a good atmosphere in my eyes?

I also left around 6ish on Sunday because I just couldn't be bothered with it any longer. After years and years of V festivals me and the OH will never go again.

I was in Orange, never ever again. We only camped there because of the 2 mile hike from the car, we were exhausted and couldn't go any further. I didn't see the twats jumping on that girls tent, but i can imagne it happened, i saw someone kick a bbq one morning from the night before into someone's tent, ash all over it.
I think they need more security posts, Where we were was not too far from one, but trees hid the view! and i couldn't see any other posts over looking where we were,

It is a god awful excuse for a festival, anyone who enjoyed it has only half a brain. As for the piss being thrown, why???? Disgusting people.

We f**ked the campsite off this year and slept in the car! Couldn't be arsed dragging all the tents and shit to the camp. What was red like at Weston? That's where we normally camp near T8 opposite Green.

What I was trying to say is that if you are jumping about watching a band with a few thousand other folk, many of whom are drunk and or drinking, then is it really a surprise that a few "characters" will lob a few full cups about? And if they do it is it really THAT bad? I mean yes, it would be kinda shit if you were getting hit continually, but most of the time it was just a few drops. And yes, throwing piss IS manky, but so is jumping about with a bunch of sweaty folk, most of whom haven't showered in a couple of days!

Of course it isn't "right". Maybe I was just unusually fortunate, but it happened so infrequently it genuinely didn't bother me, or let it spoil my enjoyment of the bands. And I was fairly near or actually at the front for Cast, Kaisers, Razorlight, Manics, Lostprophets and Good Charlotte. At one point a guy next to me got hit twice in a row and was soaked both times. He was pissed off (just like I would have been) but he just got on with enjoying the Manics. After all, what can you do?

I thought Weston this year had some real positives over years gone by.
Firstly, after horrendous queues from the M6 and long trecks to our preferred Blue campsite last year we left Manchester at 4am and arrived at Weston, without a single queue at 5.30am anticipating finding a lay-by to pull up in for a few hours before the car parks opened. Would rather get less sleep and potentially nap when pitched up than spend all day crawling along the A5. Much to our suprise North car parks had been opened early for people doing exactly what we did. One of the front cars in the car park had been there since 10pm! We parked up in a well located car park and everyone formed a queue ready for camp sites opening. There were portaloos and food vans there also - everyone in good spirits!
Have never had such a pleasant pitching of tent experience. Sun was shining, all the space in the world in Blue to select our spot and was all pitched up by 9.50am having a beer. First beer opened and thoroughly enjoyed the day watching people arrive/fall out when pitching tents/come seeking a mallet!
Another negative from last year was the absolute bottle neck when everyone hit the arena at 12pm. Missed the start of Skunk Anansie last year and was well pissed off. No such thing this year what with the campsites being open from earlier. Even went for a wee there one morning when Blue campsites toilet queues were huge!
Music wise, line-up was not really my cup of tea but I had bought my ticket in a pre-sale so my own fault really. Enjoyed quite a few of the bands I saw. Thought the Arctics were DREADFUL. No crowd interaction, no encore, a very sombre ending to the festival in my opinion.
Took one hour between 10-11 on the Monday to leave the car park and be on the A5 and not a single queue all the way back to Manchester.
Only negative for me was on the Sunday night when the dickheads started setting fire to tents and the mob of children running around singing 'let's go f**king mental'. However the fires did seem to be dealt with pretty quickly. Seemed to be a lot of vomiting going on around our tent from the obviously-just-turned-18 lot camping around us (there seemed to be A LOT of 18 year olds this year!) and a lot of stumbling into tents but noise wise I can't complain - if I was expecting a good quiet nights sleep I wouldn't go to a festival.
Quite a few positives from me this year about the organisation of V, only negatives were some of the chavtastic bands and the associated crowds.

Have to agree there did seem some more organisation on the carparks and shutting roads so more lanes to flow through - 1st time ever saw traffic management on the car parks on the way out they did seem to open more entrances too.
Less queues getting through from car park and into the arena which is total 1st, although there was a big chav factor I actually thought the crowd was quite mixed as loads of older folk (even older than me and I'm 37) which I liked tbh
People, booze and sun always means pissed up folk = annoying & noisy but that comes with the territory it seems and as long as they "play" amongst themselves I try not to let it bother me too much

Arctic Monkeys were good imo. They played a decent set. They did do an encore. Mardy Bum (quite a treat for an arctic Monkeys fan as they rarely play it), Flourescent Adolescent and 505. I can see if your not a big fan of them how you wouldnt enjoy it tho!
2nd time at V festival. Was in Weston Park in 09 for the Killers. One of the things I really enjoy about the festival is the few "chavs" taht actually go. I go to Oxegen every year which is filled with knackers who just go to get drunk and not see the music. I find V festival full of people who just want to have a few cans and see some bands.
Arrived into Wolverhampton at around 10. Got a fry in the Sainsburys and annoyingly they had no tents. Went to Argos and a VERY helpful lady showed us the tents that were half price online. Got a pop up tent for 20 pound. Much better than the 15 pound I was planning to spend on an Argos Value tent. Was pitched (not that it takes long with a pop up) by 2 pm and really enjoyed sitting in my campchair all day.
The people who pitched beside us were very friendly. A group of 18 year olds and 3 20 year olds. (Im 20). They made us feel very welcome and I even moved my tent so we could have a big circle for all of us. It was blistering on the saturday so popped along to the Comedy stage. Great addition this year. Allowed me to pass time as opposed to going to acts I did not know. Went to the few bands I wanted to see and was pleasantly suprised at how good Eminem was. Got back and the people beside us cooked us a bbq.
On Sunday I went to less bands and drink more (maybe too much). I ran out of food so again the people beside me feed me. I ended up repaying them with drink later on that night. Also thought I would brave the loos that day. At Oxegen they decided to segregate the men and women and you can imagine how bad the mens portaloos got. Although I was not expecting anything of that degree I quite enjoyed the time to myself sitting on the loo.
Got up on the Monday and literally everybody was gone.
All in all, I enjoyed my return to V festival. Its a very clean, middle class and relaxed festival that I am sure I will return to.

Interesting. I've seen the Arctics before and thought they were absolutely class. Thought they were bollocks at V. As I said, REALLY poor crowd interaction, dodgy 'arty' video screens, long gaps of dark stage and silence between songs and if that was the encore it was the poorest encore I've ever seen. Finished early too. Was with a couple of big Arctics fans and they were both very disappointed.
I had complaints last year that KOL just showed up, played some songs (all be it very well) and left, no crowd interaction. Then you compare it to the Foo's a few years ago and they were fantastic in every sense. I have a big issue with bands turning up, playing some songs without much feeling and then leaving taking with them a very large cheque.

This was my 12th V and I got to disagree that I think the organisation of Car Parking and road closures was nothing short of a disgrace. Having the A41, A5 and most traffic from the M54 all queueing for over 5 hours to get into just one small entrance for East / South was the most hideous thing I have seen V organisers do, they have not got a clue!!! It took us 3 hours to do half a mile due to the grid lock on the roundabout west of the site and this was early morning.
They closed the North Car Park too which didn't make sense and you had no access to West from the A5 or A41.
Although I didn't see much trouble being in Green Camp I did sense the Chav idiots when walking through Orange or Red.
This will be my last V as the traffic is a nightmare getting in, has got worse and worse over the years which I can cope with if the music is worth it but sadly its not. Having the pop crap means you attract the Chavs so as the dragons say 'for that reason.........I'm out'!!

Agree with all of that. For me the best crowd interaction all weekend had to goto the Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs. Great set from them. John Power of Cast was pretty good too.
