Unfotunately it WILL be a 100% pop festival by 2013. the linup is why i did not go this year.

I dont like the whole pop/xfactor/"hip pop" stuff, so hopefully this will change next year but i dont think it will.

IOW/Reading/Latitude next year

It was far from 100% pop festival - don't get me wrong, there's a lot, but watching Channel 4 will make it seem like T4 on the beach as this is what they focus on.

There was very little mention (or none at all) in the coverage of Fun Lovin Criminals, Ocean Colour Scene, Cast, Manics, Courteeners, Gomez, Airbourne Toxic Event etc etc... They only finished the Sunday night coverage with Primal Scream because they weren't allowed to show Eminem!

Think as a business it very lucrative for them to go this route as there really isn't any other festival that is covering this area (apart from T4 but thats a day trip so doesn't count) they sold out very quickly without even giving day splits with a heavily pop/rnb lineup - it will be even more saturated next year
but as Bunny said they didn't show really any of the indie bands on the coverage which is a shame as they were really good

thats the problem bunny, look at all the bands you have mentioned and there the majority best days were at festivals in the 90s.

im sure c4 execs are after the teen viewer and not the fan coming up to 40....

like others say you cant blame v as it sells out mor or less straight away, what uk fest does that now? glasto yes, t in the park yes but thats about it. theres enought festivals around for the rock/indie/metal fans so  let the pop fans have there festival aswel.

If you look back to about 2007/2008, up until then you could pretty much guess who was going to be playing V each year as a lot of bands would seemingly alternate between R&L & V. Much like Sonisphere & Download now. More smaller festivals popping up combined with a recession saw V move away from the crowded indie/rock market & more into the broad, radio 1, pop market, something that isn't currently catered for on a mass scale.
As previously mentioned, V sold out faster than most other festivals this year where the likes of R&L and Download struggled to sell out. Bear in mind these are both 3 days fests with many more attractions & better facilities that cost the same as 2 days at V!! There'll always be a presence of 'proper bands' at V, they need to appease the V faithful that have been going for 10 years but as Bunny mentioned, they can do this by booking older bands that are still plugging away on the circuit very cheaply (OCS don't command a big fee these days!). V is doing a brilliant job catering for their market & wont change a winning formula as long as they're shifting tickets.
