bennyhana22
Dear Simon and Sofia As you know, we here on the forum are the nicest and most well-informed music fans and festival goers around. You know that, because year on year you continue to create the best festival line-up in the country. Well done. Whilst, therefore, it would be remiss of us to criticise your superb curation, we feel we must draw to your attention one small 'error'. Other Lives have garnered such a following since their announcement, that for them to play on the Tipi Stage would pose significant safety risks to festival goers and performers alike. For this reason we see no alternative but for them to be moved to a 1 hour slot on the Garden Stage whilst the sun gently sets on the day. Many thanks for your help in this matter. We look forward to seeing the change in the Stage times and allocations in the next day or two. Best wishes The End of the Road Forum Members (yes, all of them) x
ljsawyer
But what's so great about this band? I don't understand
seadragon
Ben, I just came back here to make exactly this thread but you beat me to it! Having had first hand experience of their brilliance last night I can confirm that this is exactly what is required. In fact there is another option you didn't mention that would be just perfect and that would be a Sunday night slot on the Garden Stage starting somewhere round about 22.30... What's so great about them? Trust me, see them at EOTR and you'll understand!

GeordieMartin
I'm with ljsawyer, don't see what's so special about this band. They're ok but don't blow me away. Personally i think out of those in the Tipi that day that Nathaniel Rateliff should be the one moved, him or Daniel Martin Moore. Different strokes for different folks i suppose. (yes, i still come out with early 90's phrases )

GeordieMartin
Wha' choo talkin' about, Geordie? Me too (though mine was late '70's/early 80's). But about Other Lives you're wrong, clearly. See, I'm back and we can return to insulting and disagreeing with each other in an altogether more pleasant fashion. Ben
riverlodge
regardless of what you think of them, ben has a point. this is definitely a band on a steep (upward) parabolic curve, and while putting them in the tipi isn't quite the equivalent of the vaccines playing my local it's moving in that direction (just to be clear, i don't like the vaccines btw) if they were a clash with okkvervil river or midlake it would be less of a problem, but although they partially clash with gruff, they are really up against the unthanks. i know the unthanks are talented but they are a bit specialised - anyone with a half decent rock sense rather than folk sense is going to gravitate to other lives (i will, even without perfect passions' shameless promotion ) all in all, it's easy to see two to three thousand (+) folk trying to get in the tipi. eeek! ljsawyer
I'll probably see 10 or 15 mins of them (just to see if they're as good a live band as seadragon claims) if the Tipi is sort of on the way to the Big Top from the Woods Stage, but otherwise I'll be watching Gruff and Wooden Shjips

Risteardo
I never managed to download Tamer Animals when it was about a couple of months ago, so I've been in the dark til now. But have now managed to find it streaming on Grooveshark, giving it a good listen. If the single 'For 12' is anything to go by, it could be a real gem. http://grooveshark.com/#/search?q=tamer+animals

geofelgie
I saw Wintersleep in the Tipi last year and it was my favourite set of the weekend. Full on rock band that sounded fantastic in a slightly smaller environment (it was vastly bigger and better than in 2009, and, who knows, might be a bit bigger still this year). I think, though, that the best reason for Other Lives staying in the Tipi is so that their equipment is there ready for their 2am extra set. ps....I think that The Unthanks will draw a huge crowd on account of being a "known" name - and Wooden Shjips may well get the "cool" vote. Risteardo
It's fantastic, Risteardo, though I am still uncertain as to whether I like it more than their truly beautiful S/T debut LP...seek that out if you can. They'll have played quite a few European/UK festivals by EOTR, so should be warmed up nicely for a truly brilliant set! Ben
perfectpassion
Mark Radcliffe intrviewed Other Lives on R6 last wednesday, so if you want to catch it you only have 1 day left!
Fat_Buddha
I'm having a listen on Spotify and finding myself utterly indifferent to their charms, so it will be Gruff followed by The Unthanks for me
GeordieMartin
I'm not a huge fan but they did do a Hearya sesssion while back (you can download the whole session from their site, one of the best music websites going, some brilliant sessions on there and all free to download) http://http://vimeo.com/5076696 Edited August 23, 2011 by GeordieMartin
Fat_Buddha
Ta for that Hearya tip, it's brilliant innit. Now happily sat here watching Elliot Brood……….the first and best band I saw at EOTR last year.

GeordieMartin
Thing is, over the last few days i've asked loads of people who i know who are going to EOTR and not one of them had even heard of Other lives so i'm not sure they're as big (yet) as some people are suggesting on here.I've not known a band at this festival be upgraded to another stage from the one they were originally booked to play on (discounting bands who have slotted in for someone who has cancelled, Caitlin rose for example? But she had already played her booked slot the day before) Guess we'll soon know,NOT LONG NOW!
bennyhana22
I didn't really have any expectation of success, GM! I'm happy seeing them anywhere, but I think there is merit in the argument that they need space for their sound. I just think that their fantastic music wafting over the Garden would be magnificent. I know it's not gonna happen, though...or IS it?! Optimism - it's a burden, you know. Ben
bennyhana22
Oh, and I'm kind of pleased that no-one else knows them as that means they are still special and they are mine! Ben
