yea I get that impression, like stewards are all supplied by Oxfam long time friends, Lockup workers by CND also long time friends, but maybe that's just the side of the festival we see

not sure if its the same behind the scenes?!
A bit wrong on the stewarding front. Of the top of my head there are at least 5 organisations that provide stewards. The Info is from a local CND at least you had to join if you wanted to work for them which made them one of the more affluent regional offices.

I know some people who do the lock ups every year. I was under the impression that they did it via their membership of Friends of the Earth. They certainly will not have any direct long time friends 'line in' to the festival, but I suspect longer serving members of their organisation may.

Cut your teeth on some smaller festivals first - you'll get a feel for what goes on and the sort of problems that crop up.
