Does anyone fancy selling me their 2010 wristband - it does not matter if it has been cut off at all, as long as it isn't too damaged! Would be willing to pay at least a tenner. Thanks

I'm still wearing my 07 band cos I'm a mucky bastard like that! If you think wearing last years band will get you something free I'm pretty sure it won't

im really glad im not the only one with my bands still on from reading. i have my v ones on two. my dad tried to prize them off with a screw driver an a vice but the peace of metal wouldnt budge lol

it was called the  Carling Weekend only between 1998 and 2007 and Carling don't have the drinks concession any longer.

I know that people would come up to the bar claiming their free crate but they never got a free crate  although there may have been a tent run by Carling where they were doing this although I know for sure it was not in the arena and I have never met anyone who claimed they were able to get a free crate.

The big bonus for punters was the Carling Cold Beer Amnesty which was outside the arena and that was run by the WBC .

Amazingly all the cans that were handed in were dumped after the event - may sound crazy but seeing the cans handed in had various sell by dates and some were years old so the cost of sorting though cans would be more expensive than just dumping them.

This is my Team working at it in 2005 and as you can see it was not all cheap cans either.

That does sound crazy, I've got images of homeless people searching through the bins in my head now to find that pile as I remember long queues whenever I went to use it so it must of been shit loads of cans.

Behind the back was a huge refrigerated truck { similar to the one below although that was taken at a  different event }  where all the cold cans were stored but right next to it was a wall of handed in cans that was as high as the truck - I am sure if they ever put on that facility again that health and  safety would ban it as being unsafe as it was a risky business trying to walk past this huge wall.

Officially Carling claimed they were going to a warehouse to be sorted out but that was all bollocks.

The deal was any can could be handed in - there was no restriction as to how old the can was - I saw cans that were rusted so had to be a good ten years old and there is no way they could have been sold on.

At times we were using a conveyor belt to shift the new cans out { they came in 24 cans to a case } so there was heavy demand - the main image gives the impression my Team is standing about with nothing to do but it was shot at the end of the day hence why they were all standing together and why they were smiling as it was the end of our shift and why I had time to take the shot - once taken we were gone and it was up to security to clear the garden.

Carling had their own staff there as well and they were working behind the scenes stacking up the old cans.

The only thing we did crack down on was traders from outside who were really taking the piss as they would show up with a porters trolley stacked out with ten cases or so.

There is no way I was going to let them get away with it so we stuck to the deal ' replace one hot can with a cold can ' - we split the cases up and cut the plastic connecting four cans together so if they handed in ten cases of 12 cans they ended up with 120 free standing cans - they went nuts as there is no way they could move the cans back to their vehicle - as soon as the word spread out that stopped them abusing the system - I even received death threats { I am not joking } but as I was born in Glasgow I am not worried about words.

We changed the queue so that it was split in two - one section was for people with up to four cans and the other queue was for people with more than four cans - this also made the wait less for people with only a few cans.

I cant recall now the times but it was something like 11am to 6pm and the clued up punters would be waiting as we arrived - the queues went fast up to about 2pm and then it would get busy.

We lost count how many cans we handed out but it was well past 50,000++

Its lucky we are honest as there was no real checks on how many cans were handed in compared to how many cans we handed out.

We did have a few Carling executives who we recognised from previous events where we would see them in the VIP area and they came along spotted how well it was going on and they claimed it was well worth the publicity budget.

Of course when Carling did not bid for the next contract that scheme went out the window.
