After the mud & crowd debacle of Thursday night, I was thinking about how the Dance area has had drainage problems going way back.

It was the old Dance Tent that was the scene of the shit sucker/blowing incident back in the 90s because it was the most swamp like section of the site even then.

In 2008/9 it was the one part of the site which was still a bog when you could go everywhere else in flip flops.

Considering that the "Dance" area is the place where you would expect people to like to move their feet (or maybe I am a bit old fashioned here), I think that addressing the drainage on that section of the site could be a consideration for the fallow year.

When the Dance Tent started it was on land that was not owned by Michael Eavis.  I'm not sure if it's still on exactly the same land (and haven't got time to research into it) but if it is, then this could account for the drainage problems, as the festival is not going to be able to invest money in improving drainage on someone else's land.

Just got back from Global Gathering, didn't see many decorations in any of the tents, but my god do they invest in some sweet lasers, gas canons, visuals, lights etc. Everything else was pretty bog standard.

I know its a dedicated dance festival, but there is no reason why Glastonbury couldn't get the same equipment in.

The actual festival (from what i can remember) is not that hugely bigger than the Dance Village at Glasto if you exclude the main stage, so I reckon it is doable.

&&& again as i mentioned before on this thread, having promoters like Hospitality take over a tent for the day... just works!

I totally agree that dance village needs a makeover, often a change is as good as a rest! Some good suggestions on this thread I agree Cubehenge could be a focal point but I also agree 1 well designed big tent or stage could be a good call; there are plenty of big dance acts going, some of which could be reclaimed from the Other Stage line-ups.

More visuals, lasers etc better line-ups and allowing club nights/labels to do there own thing in a smaller tent (e.g. Cocoon)

Also later nights (starting later).

Just got back from Exit festival where the dance arena was undoubtably the best thing there and probably the best in Europe. Great line-up for it inc Underworld, Digitalism, Groove Armada, Carl Craig and err Deadmau5.

I hope someone with influence reads this thread.

 word.

Keep cube henge, pussy parlure and maybe have a smaller tent dedicated to promoters like hospitality et al for a day each. Then one mega tent, maybe with a 'unique' stage and pretty much make it like an ibiza superclub.
Seems impossible, but so did a building with a train coming out of it or a giant spider with flames and electric coming out of it ;)

Edit: was just thinking jumping on the 'its ibiza in a tent' theme, then bigger djs will fall for it like flies to a poo.

Alot of sense written here. I agree the dance village had lost its way a tad the last time we went [07] and we didn't spend much time there.
With the volume restrictions dance music and anything late night has to adhere to these days due to HSE, decor and visuals become more and more important along with the intelligent positioning of speakers/use of sound damping equip etc..
I run a 1000 capacity dance tent at a small festival and I invited 6 decor providers this year along with separate lazer specialist, lighting specialist, crew of VJs with 3 big circular screens, dancers and general nutcases happy to come along, provide their particular expertise for not much more than expenses and a few guesties...there are soooo many fantastic club nights, underground crews in this country putting on impressive nights on a monthly basis, these are the people who I use and it works really well...Glasto needs to reach out to these people and add abit of variety and abit more grass roots ethics to proceedings...

Maybe swapping say the avalon + kids field (or any area on this side) with the dance village, then there may be a possibility of later times?

There would be uproar if they moved avalon + kids. Avalon has some kind of historical significance where it is, and the Kids field is perfect there because its a nice, fun, cosy, and most importantly, safe part of the festival next to the things that the kids like the most, such as circus, caberet, theatre etc..
All that area needs to be kept together. Plonking the dance village, and the space cadets it attracts, over there would really mess up the dynamics i reckon

tbh I think it works well as it is, and the low numbers can be blamed on the weather..the dance village was really bad the first day or two..

and as to noise levels/decorations sure, there's always going top be complaints..and health and safety do put a stop/limit to a lot of things/make them harder

Gold Panda was amazing at cube henge, alex metric, seth troxler and jamie jones  on the last night at the WOW tent...

plenty of decent music, Yousef was good too, tent wasn't very busy but still good - gotta remember a lot of people go because it's 'cool to go# and don't stray away from the main stages, pyramid/other etc

Flip, even though Im not a big dance music fan (not sure what Im doing in this thread :P ), I was really impressed with your tent at BT, it took me back a bit since I was expecting an empty tent like you see at glasto  ;)

Not sure when you went in?

Definitely wasn't on Thursday night, barely any space!
