Umm, perhaps getting some sleep before setting off may help. You shouldn't really drive if you're going to be that tired, you could endanger someone.

If you've got long hair, stick a bit out the window then put your window up to the top. Every time you nod off and your head drops it will be painful as f*ck and wake you up.
Good luck.

book a hotel room within an hour's drive of glasto and get a shower and some shut-eye before going any further. if you get mangled sunday night, don't drive at all.

Windows down, music loud!
I'm freaking out. My boyfriends driving me down and his stereos packed in, I'm also banned from eating, drinking and smoking in the car - Dont know how I'll cope let alone him.....

I was going to suggest the trapped hair in the sunroof method, thats pretty much the only one that would work.. Ultimately though if you're that tired and nodding off then stop and have a nap, its not worth killing yourself or others over.. I've been in that situation before and I consider myself lucky to have not dropped off.. Easy to say with hindsight but should have pulled over and got 40 winks..
I read somehwere that the best thing you can consume to aid you staying awake is not coffee/caffiene as this gives you a short hit and then a dip in attention.. Instead have an apple which will give a slow release of energy..

You may want to rush back - but if you are too tired on Monday morning, have a lie in. Sleep until you wake.
Stop off-site as soon as practical.. get some coffee & carbs.... if needed,, do this more than once.
As other poster has said, if its a long drive - break your journey in a B&B.... £40 and a day late is far better than dead in a ditch.
This year is #16 , so i have driven to/from Manchester 32 times..... its a bloody long way back, and I have stopped four or five times in recent years- arriving late Monday evening some years...... but better than never arriving.
Also - if you MUST leave early on Monday, stop drinking at midnight. Remeber that aside from your own safety, a tired driver in a car can cause others a lot of damage too.
Lecture over...
ps - quick related joke
Q - "How do you want to die"
A - "Peacefully in my sleep, just like grandad....................... not screaming in terror, like his passengers

We left straight after stevie last year - massive mistake, I was completely exhausted and had to stop at every services, and I nearly feel asleep at wheel, despite doing all this stuff, it still scares me now how close i was to having an accident! This year we will be leaving on Monday, after a few more hours sleep.
Drive safetly folks.

Good advice although the nit picker in me must point out that protein is actually best, carbs make you sleepy.
I would add if possible get one of your mates to at least offer to share the driving. Even the knowledge that someone else can take over takes some of the pressure off "getting people home" and saves more energy for driving.

I'm gonna stick 1/2 gram of speed up my nose. I'll be particularly tired coz I'm leaving at 4am Monday morning, probably still a bit pissed. The old Billy Wizz usually helps.

Big cans of Relentless or Red Bull and chocolate if you can't get enough sleep, which to be fair often just isn't possible in a tent that turns into an oven as soon as the sun comes up.
I was really struggling on the way back last year & the above really sorted me out.

Just drink Vodka Redbull all day then have a couple of lines racked up on your dashboard, everytime you feel like going to sleep have one of them.
Easy.

I have to drive about 325 miles. I usually leave early hours of Monday morning and it is difficult. Last time was the worst because all my passengers were asleep but I took plenty of breaks at services. Would be a good idea to get a few hours shortly after leaving the site if you can. Red Bull etc helps but I find coffee is best for me.
Don't want to be a bore or anything but don'd drink on the Sunday. Ok maybe a livener or two on the morning but it does help (and is also responsible) not consuming alcohol.
Anyway, dont worry about it now. Concentrate on having a good time when in there

thanks guys for the tips, not driving isn't really an option as I have to come back some time. Relentless, chocolate and apples it is!

I've got a brilliant solution to the nightmare of driving home on the Monday!
It involves a bed a shower and a place called travel lodge in Glastonbury :-P

We usually get off site early monday morning to avoid car park queue then stop at the first services for a couple of hours sleep. Judging by the rest of the cars full of muddy sleeping people its a popular option.

Back when I had a proper job and taking photos at festivals (normally for this good site) was but a hobbyists folly, I used to quite regularly do 3 weekenders on the bounce, with work in the middle, running something like this:
Mon-Thurs - Work
Thurs night - drive to festival
Sunday night - leave festival, driving overnight
Monday morning - work
(x3)
This f**king kills you, trust me.
Anyway, my point - a few times on a particularly long drive back from t in the park (left festival at midnight, got out of carpark at 2:30, arrived in Darlington just in time to sit at my desk on time) I nodded off on the road. Looking back, it was a bloody stupid thing to do and I could have not only killed myself but someone else too. If you feel yourself nodding, PULL OVER AND HAVE A KIP. Half an hour can make all the difference, and you can save the near death experience for the portaloos.
Take it easy and take care.

I'm in Darlington myself Tommy. Got to do the rounds over in Teesside and collect peeps before I go but out of interest what time do you plan on leaving the site on Monday to head back?
