Yeah buddy!

Sorry if I've missed this on any previous threads...our group will be arriving at Glasto on the Tuesday night and we want to get in to any West Car Parks so we'll be closest to Pennards Hill - will any West Car Parks be open? Or will the entrances just be diverted to one specific one? If the West's open, have any of you got any tips on how to get to that side from London town? We've tried each year and have always ended up on the furthest East Car Park, after last years trek in the heat (come on the sun!!) I was wondering if any of you know of any specific routes?

Also...is it true that you're not allowed to get out of your car on the Tuesday night? Or is this a rumour?!

Thanks all and a happy Glasto you you!!!  :D  :D  :D  B)

West car parks will be open, or at least they were last year. The postcode is BA6 8NE. I don't do the driving so can't help you anymore than that. Have a good one :)

Yep West car parks are open - we could hear the noise from them last year from the camp site we stay in that's right next to them!

To get to the West car parks, best to approach from Glastonbury town on A361. Avoid the A37 as that takes you the side of the East car parks.

If you come through Glasto town will hit the west CP's... W36 & W38 fill up first I think.

Think this'll probably be the route we'll take to Pennards:

It's not a rumour, it's a condition of their licence.

That said, I think what they mean is you can't pitch a tent... but you can get out, stretch your legs and I'm sure they have toilet facilities working...

is that the only postcode for the west car parks? I just looked on my sat nav for the one we used last year and I can't find it.

Thanks to you both, have made these notes - last year we ended up camping in the Dairy Ground as Pennards was full by the time we'd got there on the Wednesday - we tried to get to a west car park and ended up in E6 - needless to say that was one long lug with our stuff in the heat! So this year, I've made sure I've asked for advice and we're going on the Tuesday night - as for the licence thing that's grand, not planning on pitching a tent or anything, my flatmate was enquiring about the car park party rumours she'd heard...I think someone was winding her up

Thanks again guys, hope you all have a wicked one   :D  :D

Coming from the east(I came from Reading, though did M4 J17 I think, then got lost a bit or something :) )... I've always managed to get in to a West car park when I wanted to.  Have some times had to blag it a bit to get to the specific West car park I wanted (ie for gate D), but always managed that too.

Coming the way I did last time, there's a split at one point where east car parks are diverted one way and west car parks are taken over the North of the site, past the A gate.

How are you going to walk through the Paines crew camping? And why not just go along the train track?

This is the route we walked last year:

(We camp in the middle of Pennards, and the fields we walked across were practically empty at that time in the morning)

Thats the way we left last year from Pennards although when we entered the site we used Gate A for reasons bizarre!

you can't walk in at gate D and then straight along the railway as it's staff only for a part.  you have to go up through Dairy.

i tried it last year and was sent that way.

Stewarding person says "you have to go that way"; "oh, but I've been told I have to meet at gate D" (giving the hint it might be something officialish, helped by being in a van for the last five years or so.)  They let you carry on.  Do make sure you've got an idea of where you're going and how to get there yourself - they won't have a clue.

In the West car park last year on the Tuesday. Plenty of 'walking about' and toilets were available at the entrance to the queing area.

As to getting to the West car parks, I come from Devon so relatively easy for me. I use the A303 and then head North at an appropriate point. You could do the same by coming out of London by the M3, then A3/A303 until a suitable point to turn Right/go North.

Last year coming from East Anglia, we headed to Wells first. Had a pint at the pub where the filmed Hot Fuzz, then approached the festival via Glastonbury Town. As it was 10:30pm Tuesday night, hardly any traffic and the marshals let us drive round the festival freely. Then we pulled into the Orange (I think) gate and drove straight to W36 following Marshalls orders. Car park was about one third full. Everyone was out of their cars, playing music & drinking.
There were plenty of toilets, but no drinking water.

Then joined the queue at about 5:00 after failing to sleep in a Corsa. Got into the festival about 9:00 and had our pick of camping on Penards Hill. Once pitched, we had a kip till 12:00. Once we woke up the field was much much busier, nearly full I'd say.

Plan to do the same this year, although this time in a van so may get some sleep this time
