Hi
Been to V festival and although I have a strong stomach was nearly sick emptying the caravan toilet into the container as it was full and other people's waste was overflowing. Has anybody got tips for where and when to empty toilets, I had thought of using a caravan site when we got home but will probably have to empty it at least once.

I had a problem with this last year. Try an empty it on Friday the container should have space, leave it to Sunday/Monday and you will struggle.
I posted before about how there was a caravan right next to the container last year, by the Sunday the heat had made the stench unbelievable the container was full and people had left the lid open, but the woman in the caravan was happy enough!!

Always good fun standing in the poo queue laughing at grown men heaving and gagging whilst emptying the cassettes into an emormous vat of brown slop......knowing that you will be just the same.
Top tips: Tie a hanking, scarf etc around your face with a couple of bungs up the nostrils...no one will take the piss ( wish they would..literally)....they will wish they had done the same.
Wear dark glasses....helps the eyes from streaming from the acrid smell/gas
Beware of splash back when the big plops hit
If someone offers to help let them....its easier to lift when theres two....and then help them.
Avoid all temptation to look into the void....its like staring in the long drops....you may never be the same again.

Only use it in an emergency and use a fabric conditioner bottle for wees, empty the bottle daily into the loos provided, ladies can use too with the use of a funnel.
Then just empty the caravan toilet down your loo at home when you get back if the facilities provided by the festival are overflowing.

you're only there for 5 days will you really need to empty it? surely the tank is big enough to wait until you get home?
i know motorhomers (especially elder gentleman) love emptying their waste and grey water (from experience) but caravaners too?

You are right that this is the most vile and horrid part of G and is always my job. Rubber gloves, a very old pinny and looking the other way is how I deal with it, afterwards clean up with antibac wipes. Once the tank is full I use the tardis ones. Although some might not like this, they are emptied more regularly than the tanks and to me this seems better than letting it overflow onto the ground. To (hopefuly) make it less horrid this year we will try to use the onsite toilets for the first few days while they are ok, and keep the van bog for the last few days and emergencies only. I am taking an empty fabric conditioner bottle and a funnel for nighttime use which should make things easier. I do think tho' as we pay so much for campervan field tickets there should be better disposal facilities.
