Yeah, you might get pulled over to see if you've got glasses, glass jars, stuff like that. It happened to us once, but it wasn't particularly thorough.

Last year my van was searched very thoroughly for glass - including lockers which were stuffed with slabs of booze. It was a bit of a pain. You should have seen the guy's face when he found the naked Ukrainian girl in the toilet.

Ive used a camper van many times and as yet have never been searched.....however I have seen a few others getting the once over. Now this may be rubbish but the ones Ive seen checked do tend to be of a certain type....older and more of an individual nature. <_<

Although if I'd had a kids ticket the goat could of got in but the ferrets had no chance.

Been searched every time. However it is only to make sure you are not bringing bottles in. It's all done with a smile and they are usually not that thorough

Last year I drove up in a friends converted ambulance that I had borrowed. Painted flat white and had the look of a motorhome about it. As I came in one of the stewards poked his head in the passenger side and asked if it was a proper camper van. I pointed to the door to the loo and the fridge, sink, cooker in the back and he was convinced. I also volunteered that I had taken all the glass off before I was asked. Don't know if that saved me from a more thorough look or not.

I had taken all the glass off, but there were glass mirrors in the loo. I think I was safe there, or I would have had to take out the windows as well.

But as was said, all good natured and I think genuinely making sure everything is OK.

Travelled down in friends campervan last year. Security asked about washing or cooking facilities and had a good look in the back, but never searched it. Just looking for glass i guess.

Not so simple if you've hired the van. They usually come with glasses and crockery included, and there's not much you can do about it. In previous years I've had all this sort of stuff on board and did wonder if it would be okay. I've been searched every year and the security folk have always been friendly and sensible. I've yet to meet a jobsworth - I would say they are on the look out for genuine idiots trying to do something stupid. If you've got a rack of glasses in a cupboard that obvously came with the van, I'd be surprised if there was any trouble.

Yeah briefly. We had a sacrificial bottle of red that the camper owner had given us ready to give them, they were happy with that and did the most cursory of searches.

They board the campervan or caravan to check for glass and my guess is they have a look for other banned items such as generators and animals? I always go in with them, explain what I keep where, open the bathroom door and we are then waved on our way.  :)
