I've always been a pure booze man. All nighters just need tactical deployment of red bull (although the sugar crash is probably worse than a comedown!). Drugs scare me. I know full well I'd be the kind of unlucky sap to get busted the first time, and working for a charity, it's not such a good look.

I'm quite a party boy anyway. At Primavera people KEPT coming up to me and asking me for stuff. I was like "Leave me alone! I'm just having a good time!"

When I first started going to festivals etc in my late teens I would tend to take a lot of various 'intoxicants'.
However, over the years I worked out that FOR ME I tended to enjoy an event such as Glastonbury with many and varied entertainments when taking a lot of 'stuff'.

Partly because I'm a light sleeper so can't sleep well in the day/at unusual times and partly because there's a lot I DO want to see and do which I'm probably not going to when highly intoxicated.

Last year I did do a pill for the first time in a lot of years and enjoyed it, though staying up for the sunrise meant two hours sleep and a bit dazed come Sunday daytime.

I do usually have a decent few beers and sometimes a little something to smoke before bed, but overall I can enjoy a festival entirely sobre, or pretty messed up.

I've just not fallen into the kind of life where drugs are readily available -- and I'm not interested enough, and too lazy, to go searching, even at Glastonbury.

I drink pretty regularly, and I'm absolutely convinced that alcohol is more harmful in all kinds of ways, than a number of illegal drugs.
- It causes long-term health issues
- It can cause really horrible hangovers
- It makes some people abusive, violent, or just dicks
- It's very addictive indeed

I still love it though.

I don't tend to get blind drunk at Glastonbury -- I like to stay more or less sober during daylight hours, then aim for a nice buzz through the evening and maybe go a bit wilder after the main acts have finished.

Ive done all sorts at glastonbury and I believe mandy and herb are the only ones worth doing. I dont think I could do glasto completely drug free, I'd be in bed by 2 and that's not what I want at all. Though this year I do intend to do alot less, I'm thinking just two or three nights come about 11pm id crack out a little of the mandy, the reason being I dont want to still be dying outside my tent in silly temperatures having had very little sleep at 3pm.

My gf however, who tried mandy for the first time during blur at glasto 2 years ago, swears it was the best night of her life (and im inclined to agree) and is going to be bang on it this year (she only does them at glasto), so we'll see how things turn out. I dare say my plans will go out the window and it will just be like every other year.

I don't touch anything illegal (except once see below), simple reasons being.....
1. Too expensive
2. I'm the sort to get caught, arrested, loose my job.
3, If I did get some knowing my luck it would be cut with crap and my children would be motherless.

Having said that I drink with people who do various types and I admit I can see the attraction but I've got to 31 without, I have addictive personality so im my best interest I don't try it. I did have some cheesecake one year after too many ciders at the brothers bar and it wasn't until I couldn't move (and still couldn't 6 hours later) that I twigged that it had been made with a secret ingredient...I didn't like the feeling of not being able to move so the green stuff is a no no for me.

Last year and the year before my partner and I were frequently asked what we were on as we were buzzing our arses off at 4am, we had only been drinking Ouzo mixed with Lucozade (The citrus one). This kept us going for hours. Red bull doesn't work for me as I am an 11 or 12 cups of tea/coffee a day.

Go careful all those of you who do experiment with things!
Happy festival all x x x x x x x x x

Nah, eating gear is much more powerful than people generally bargain for.  Different experience altogether (unpleasant IMO).

Fair comment.  I've smoked for 20 years+ now and a few years ago had a muffin at work (had a few crap brownies at festivals in the past, barely touched the sides) that frankly knocked me sideways, was more stoned than I'd been since I was 18.

I'm largely boiling in milk/melting in butter and making coffee/cake at the moment and don't find it to be the same experience, it's ok, but its like rolling 4 joints to get the buzz of 1 and not quite the same as having one in the ashtray you can light, have a few tokes, then forget for 20 minutes.

First time I ever saw someone take Ket - 6 years back now and the lad who sold me all my 'merch' from our hometown came rolling down the stone circle hill in a wedding dress at 7am on the sunday hahaaa

Ket looks bloody horrible from the outside.  Had to recue some kid last year who was sitting shivering munted in the rain (Monday night, yes it rained).  Try putting a jumper on someone who seems to think it's a straightjacket/live animal/portal/waveform/whatever.  Not fun.

I had avoided doing Ket because of what it looks like from 'the outside'.
Ironically enough, the time I have done it now is 'jacked up'... by an NHS person in an ambulance.

Actually quite nice it turned out... definitely helps take your mind of a broken tib/fib and a severely beaten up body when trying launching yourself skywards from a 100mph motorbike in a tyre wall at a race track!

i can never understand anybody feeling the need to take drugs in a social environment.  Surely this says more about the people that you are with?

Without wanting to sound judgemental, anybody that thinks its great or cool to use drugs just to enjoy themselves, try getting new mates.

your mates probably hate you

Was that not morphine?  I recently got to 'enjoy' IV morphine and oramorph.  Oramorph tastes feckin' lush, it would be madness if that stuff was legalised because people would drink it in pints it tastes so good!  Personally, as great as it was I wouldn't want to get attached to that warm blanket personally.

as a side issue, are there any herbal high stalls this year?
i was reading that many festivals have outlawed them this year, and wondering if glastonbury had done the same for 2011?

I do all festivals on just booze, I don't even drink that much or get absolutely hammered but I am merry though out on it, so it can be done and you can have a great time. Just as I am sure you could completely sober.

Drugs, I've not ever dabbled just once or twice took a puff someone else's joint, but I've never really been mates with anyone who does it or can get me. I am not opposed to trying just never been been offered it off anyone I trust enough to be around when I did do it. (Been offered quite a few things at festival and declined :P)
