It's important to remember why they've done this i.e. issues with over-crowding in some of the late night areas was highlighted as an issue in the review after the festival.

Ultimately they identified an issue that needed solving and this is teh solution they've come up with. The status quo couldn't continue.

IMO, this will work quite well; it effectively moves the "queue" from the old railway line to a field and a much longer, regulated track. The only issues I can think of is how the queue is formed in Glebeland i.e. how they avoid people just grouping around the gate and where they close off the railway line; there could be a bit of congestion where people are turned around.
Yeah, I tend to agree. The more I think about it, the more I think that this will work much better than 09 an 10 where the system they had in place, let's be honest, wasn't fit for purpose.

The key I think is the expansion of Arcadia to be so much bigger and this also being the principal main entry point- I can see this acting as a buffer to allow people to enter before moving to their preferred area of the south east corner.

As others have said, if Arcadia is closed out the queue can route in to shangri la. Can't wait to see it in action!

I don't think this is the case, isn't the Arcadia and shangri la being seen as one area!!

I've been told the track will be 5 meters wide, the calculations/projections are based on the maximum number of pedestrians that can pass per meter per minute.

Yes, but should one area reach potentially dangerous crowding levels they can make the paths between them one way until things even out a bit. 99% of the time that shouldn't be an issue though.

I'm sure it is as the orange arrow routes round past the Arcadia entrance on my map to enter at shangri la.

Arcadia looks MASSIVE too- if the map is to scale it looks half as big as the immense pyramid field. Ive got a good feeling the new plans will sort out the issues experienced in previous years...

So what's the general feeling about a time to head up? Fri night I'm not too bothered about any headliner (I'll sacrifice Crystal Castles for Arcadia) so can easily head up for about 11pm which should be fine.

However, is it even worth scarpering up straight after the Chems on Sat or will that just be a huge waste of time?

paulo999 we were told at our briefing (Oxfam) that the control point was at the start in Glebeland and the track would be free flowing

A quick update...

I took a look at the signage on Sunday. It's looking like the control point is where I first thought. At that point, there is a big sign up facing into the queue saying "Welcome to {list of late areas} - Thanks for your patience, Have A Great Night!!"

(Piccy here: http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream)

At the Glebeland end, there is (small) sign saying "estimated queuing time, 60 minutes". So although there may well be a fair bit of stewarding work at that end, it looks - on the face of it at least - the control point will be as per the brief I was party to, i.e. 250m further on, at the 90 degree left turn (adj. Bella's Gate)

I haven't really paid attention to this until now.

Now that I have, it seems like an eminently sensible solution to what was a genuine problem.

I can think of worse places to be stuck than Glebeland.

The new Arcadia area is absolutely huge...

What is the capacity going to be for the whole South East area?

I hope they are not over cautious. The whole area, even the far corners and small bars needs to be busy and crazy to create an atmosphere...

This all makes sense - will ensure that the queue is organised and means that people will probably do something else rather than joining it if it gets too long.

Hopefully they'll replicate the banners for Shangri La that were over the old railway line on this new path.

Considering Astrolabe and Blazing Saddles go on till 3 in the morning I can see a lot of people looking at the queue and deciding to stay there unitl it dies down. Am planning on seeing DJ Shadow on Friday so think I might spend some time at the Dance Village before heading to the SE Corner, doubt I'll have much chance of getting in. Friday is the worst night for queues anyway.

I'm confused. Can you go to the late night areas through the day and access them the normal way?

Yes - with the only proviso that (as I'm sure you know) an individual area might not open until they've finished their build.

25,000 apparently, and yes, Arcadia is going to be massive in so many ways this year.
