Word of advice for your friends too - crew won't be permitted in camp in public fields this year, and any tents pitched in the public fields on Tuesday night will be taken down.

Yep, your right, but just thought it may have been a perk of working there early, so we have a little spot for ourselves in a decent location.

I would think that if what's been said is correct then workers will get it from official sources when they arrive on site.

There's no need for the festival to make a public statement about it.

AFAIK the firms working at Glasto should be briefing their staff on this, but I can't see anything online.

To be fair, this has been the rule for a year or two now, but wasn't really enforced. This year the message is "but we will enforce it this time, honest." Remains to be seen if it's true.

The argument is basically that having workers camping in public fields makes them more crowded for customers. More crowded site = Mendip Council getting angry.

Exactly, the crew and workers get adequate crew areas and the public don't get the choice.  Do the decent think and not abuse the crew system to the loss of the public.

A "perk" it is not.

My backstage area is miles from where I want to play when i'm off duty but you have to take the rough with the smooth.  Many other crew workers don't get the choice either.

and a little perk of us paying 200 nicker to be there, is that the best spots aren't taken by workers - when they've more than enough camping space.  Good, I hope they enforce it and remove all tents.  Yep, I am a grump about this.

I don't know how many workers there are - but that is a shed load of space taken up by crew putting their mates tents up for them - hence why no one can now get into Dragon.

What about if workers and non workers are planning to share their camping space/tent accommodation?

Would it be possible for workers to move camp on wed morning to public areas? or even non workers to get into the workers area so they can share accommodation on the workers camp?

well, if I ran Glastonbury - No.

Each worker has allocated space.  Each punter has allocated space.  if one moves from one to another, they will be taking up space allocated to to that particular group - as the other group - particularly the punters cannot be displaced into the workers area.

Half empty camping areas in popular areas like at bottom of Pennards are frustrating to see, could this be solved by removing tents on Tuesday night?  I assume a lot of crew will want to camp with their friends when their friends arrive, so maybe not.  Certainly it seems fair to me they should be allowed to pitch tents from the same time everyone else starts coming through the gates.  This would still give them a huge advantage, as getting to be first at the gates is a massive effort now.  The idea that many crew can lay down many tents before anyone else is on site is one I hate.

Even allowing them to setup for mates once the gates open is a really huge advantage as you say. I mean you could reserve any amount of space before the first punters could even get to those fields with getting armbands and trekking there. In which case it doesn't seem worth the bother not letting them set up early as you still get the same end result.

The only other way would be not to let them setup in public fields at all and insist they use crew camping which may not go down too well I shouldn't think.

I assume this is how the Pyramid Palace gets the same spot every year no ?

I don't partucalarly care either way but it does annoy me when I see huge roped off crew areas that are empty and everyone else squeezed in like sardines.

I'd be more than happy to swap my squished camping area for one of the swathes of land at the bottom of Pennards,

Ignore my previous post. I obviously didn't read the thread properly as it was stated at the top that crew will not be permitted to camp in public spaces at all this year.

I can't see this being particularly enforceable but yeah.

Personally speaking I don't think I could ever be bothered to pitch my tent, sleep a few nights, then pack up, move it, and re-pitch it on the Wednesday, just to be a little closer to some stages.

Think the issue in past years wasn't that they were crowding it, or they didn't want them mixing with us, it was the fact they were turning up with tents for 20 to 30 mates and blocking off huge areas before any ticket buying people could get it.

So I reckon it's fair enough - nothing to stop you joining mates from Wed onwards.

But then again I can be a miserable sob (down with the flags etc) so ignore me ;)
