Help, I'm on the dole at the moment following a redundancy  :(

Anyhow hopefully it won't be for long but my problem is that my signing on day lands whilst we're at Glastonbury. I can't afford to lose the money but does anyone know if I can just ring the job centre up on the day pretending to be sick or something??

I hate trying to work the system but I need Glastonbury after a somewhat stressful year but I also need my dole!!!

You can tell them you have a holiday, might be good to mention it was paid for by parents/friends.  You don't have to put in a fresh claim as long as you have not left the UK.

your allowed 2 weeks holiday while on jsa, tell them its was bought and paid  for before you lost your job and if you cancel you will lose all monies, they shouldn't give you any bother.

BUT, I haven't been near a dole office in a round 6 years and things may of changed...

Pablo is correct. Next time you go for sign on do tell them you will be on holiday on that sign on day. You just have to fill out a couple of forms. Much better than it being cancelled because you were cheeky and didnt turn up on sign on day.

I was going to have to do that myself (the holiday form and did it back in 09 with no issue) but as I am now getting a full week's work the week before the G I have to sign off anyway and cant sign back on with Rapid Reclaim until I get back from the G.

Right I went in today and filled in the form but i was slightly reluctant to tell them where I was going so I said I was off camping with my folks for a long weekend. I also said I'd come straight home if a job offer came along.

They wouldn't tell me if i would get my dole though and said they would let me know when I went to the job center next which would be the Tuesday after I got back (just made mental note to remove wristband). Do you anyone know whether I will get a payment or not as I don't want to return to no electricity/food etc.

it wont matter where your going, that wont affect your entitlement...you could be going for a 5 star cruise round the bahamas...as long as what your doing fits in with the  regulations you wil be fine

You won't need to remove your wristband - it is of no consequence where you have been, unless you were away working! Don't worry about stuff like this, you obviously worked or saved hard enough to be able to go to Glasto and you're very privileged to have been able to secure a ticket, so enjoy yourself guilt free! As long as you have given them the relevant notice, you should be fine.  :)

Incorrect, if you are holidaying outwith the UK you are not entitled to JSA for that period.

Excellent. I've, saved, begged and borrowed to go to Glasto as well as sell some of my belongings including my bike to pay for my ticket. so I'm determined to go and have the time of life.

Been studying on an Access course and got a place in uni for September too so it'll def be a time to celebrate and let my hair time after a tough year financially  :)

You are entitled to 2 weeks holiday within the UK on JSA, you will need to fill in a form and give them 2 weeks notice before the holiday, the form will ask for the address you will be staying at (give anything e.g. a mate or family member) plus how you intend to continue to look for work (internet, smart phone, friend is checking local papers) plus if they find a suitable job can you return for an interview within 48 hours notice (just tick yes), they will then ask you to attend an appointment usually a few days after the return date you have stated.  It will just be like your usual signing but maybe a few other forms to sign, your benefit will go through a few days later than usual due to signing late but it will not effect your benefit.  Enjoy the festival  :)

I went to Cyprus with family in April whilst claiming JSA, luckily for me the week I was there didn't hit a signing on day so I just didn't tell them anything (if anything it didn't make much difference as I used a computer there to look for jobs so was still looking)

I'm still signing on and my sign on day is the day before I go to Glastonbury.  Although hopefully I won't be needing it for much longer if I get the job I'm having an interview for next week. :)

Whilst I'm not one for generalising, having found myself back on the dole and having to sign on, I've found staff at the jobcentre to be arrogant, condescending arses!!  I thought  Pauline out of League of Gentlemen was supposed to be a joke, not an inspiration to them!!

An ES90 is only if you will be signing at another office.

I am a personal advisor in a Jobcentre and I agree there are some right cynical w*nkers who work in the DWP. We're not all like that though. :P
