You'd do well to remember this as you're walking through those gates in 5-weeks, and try to recall it every night at about 3am when you think it might be time for bed, it might make you power through til sunrise with a crazy grin on your face! :
Expressed as a fraction of the lifespan of the universe as measured from its beginning to the evaporation of the last black hole, life as we know it is only possible for one thousandth of a billion billion billionth, billion billion billionth, billion billion billionth of a percent.
With that ridiculous fact in mind (thankyou Professor Brian Cox) you can start trying to comprehend how lucky we are to even be here, but at the same time you should also consider the fact that in 2011, three billion people live in abject poverty, surviving on less than one pound and fifty pence per day and that your chances of being born into the lucky 3 or 4 billion were only just above 50/50 (we just got lucky, plain and simply)
Within that amazingly lucky window of time and oppurtunity you are also fortunate enough to be one of the lucky ones within the 60-million people in the UK who are A: Aware what Glastonbury is, B: Have enough taste to realise that they want to go and, C: Lead lives whereby they can practically and financially afford to go.
Within that you truly truly TRULY are the lucky few who were able to get tickets to the best music festival in the whole God-Damn world! Maths can't even express the combined elements of good fortune that will lead you to those gates on June 22nd!
The moral of this story is, put simply, who gives a f**k about the queuing system at Shangri-La? Lets just f**king 'ave it!
(This started off preachy and went a bit chavvy at the end....I like it:-)

Nice one Adam. I had originally decided to take it easy this weekend and then I read your post. Based on how youve made me aware how lucky i am to even exist, ive decided to go bloody mental this weekend.
You're taking the blame if I spend all of my Glasto money

Nice post. I often like to fill my time thinking about stuff like this. How big the universe is, how small the tiniest things are, how long the universe has been in existence and so on. It never fails to make me feel happy.
I disagree that there shouldnt be any 'negativity' on these forums though. In my view if this was just endless pages about people saying how great glastonbury is, and how excited they are, it would be pretty tedious. Healthy debate is part of what makes efests so great.
I wont be thinking about the vastness of the universe when i walk through those gates though, ill be thinking 'thank christ they didnt find my stash!'

Nah, I disagree. Not about the line-up being better mind you, it could be a lot better. No no, the line-up should never affect your Glastonbury experience too much in my opinion. I remember in 2008 I probably saw four or five bands that year...and I'll tell you what. I had one of my best years yet!
Last year, saw 8? 9? acts, an even better year! In fact is was the best Glastonbury I've ever had!

All you've done is make me even more acutely aware of the atronomical unlikelihood which has led to the billions to one fact that Pendulum and the Kaiser Chiefs are both appearing on different stages at the same time.

Cheers for that.
I've had a crap week at work (after working part time for the last 3 years that is such a weird phrase to me, being back on the wage slave train) and a little positivity is always welcome.
I've stopped reading (and mostly never started replying to) the negative threads, just like I don't go to the stages playing music that doesn't appeal to me.
The forum is what you make of it people.
