a handful of artists have the talent to justify itpersonally, i am desperately happy Prince wasn't in the Glasto line-up, never particularly liked his music and the slating that other artists get for been self-conceited, Prince/AFKAP etc is in another league

2. given his disputes with his record company of old, it might be the case that he has no interest in promoting the sales of his back catalogue.
But his setlists are very 80's heavy. He can't only be playing to promote 90's onwards. His material of late isn't spectacular.

I think you are misunderstanding the point there, as you are comparing 2 different things.
1. He does tours and plays songs from the 80's, as he isn't stupid and knows thats where the hits ar. He makes money from these shows for himself from the sale of the tickets (rather than increased sales of his back catalouge).
2. The opposite point of view is to play Glastonbury for a low fee, in order to increase sales of his albums. But by doing this would be making money for the record companies on the sales of older hits, rather than making money for himself.

Hello !!!!
advice please ..... being GUTTED after not getting a Glasto ticket yesterday , I started browsing for another festival and I decided on Hop Farm .... the 2 day version ...
now just when I decided to part with the cash I noticed all this Prince stuff and people having to buy extra top up on their already paid for tickets ... I can imagine SEE charging even more admin for that !!! I wouldn't mind seeing Prince
so question : should I get the 2 day ticket with camping today and top it up tomorrow ?? or get up early tomorrow with my finger on F5 and risk losing out *again* .......
thank you loads for any input ....

My guess would be that buying a ticket today would be too late to put you in the getting offered the extra day before they go on sale option?
If so, I would say that it's worth gambling for tomorrow. There will surely be a limit of day tickets and camping tickets, with the day tickets being more popular, so your chances could be better.
If you fail, the Fri/Sat tickets should still be available you'd think.
The above logic makes sense to me, but don't just go on my word
Ps. Have you missed out in all 3 sales for Glastonbury? Massively unlucky if so

I'm very impressed with all three of the Hop Farm headliners. Wish I could make it.

I'm going to the Foos that day already though, so that rules out making this one. Already missing Flaming Lips doing Soft Bulletin that weekend due to a wedding (where we've also been told the David Haye fight is not going to be allowed by the bride).
Tickets start at 70 quid unless you're going to another day of the festival! Not what I would call cheap.
Also at Foo's that day, though one of my party has dropped out to see Prince instead. Though if Prince is playing Dublin in July, that sounds like a much better plan to me!

eFestivals, on 18 May 2011 - 09:56 AM, said:Firstly, would they have got Prince if they'd waited? Everything points very firmly to no. It seems clear that he's accepted the biggest money offer, which wouldn't have come from Glasto.
As for selling out, while they've sold the tickets this year, it doesn't mean the same happens next year. If they'd have waited for Prince and not got him they'd have quite likely ended up with a sub-standard headliner instead (such as Gorrillaz last year), which then impacts on the festival's reputation which might cause tickets to not sell in the future.
(Because Gorillaz were a fill-in for U2 because of Bono's back injury, people accepted those circumstances. They'd be less accepting if they didn't know the reason for a lower standard headliner than expected - and it's very unlikely that Glastonbury would feel they could announce "we got NotSoGood as a headliner this year because Prince wouldn't accept our offer".)
she's a dreadful booking for those people who don't like her style of music. Her sales get to show that he's a hugely popular act even if she's not popular with you, and in that context she's an excellent booking.
How good a booking she is will be shown by the numbers who go an watch her - and I've no doubt that the numbers will prove her a more than acceptable booking, exactly as happened with Jay-Z where much the same was said by people who have failed to recognise that tastes in music are changing (and always changing).
It's beyond doubt that Hop Farm are spending huge amounts to get these acts. Glastonbury is not in the financial position to compete with those sums, due to the money it gives to charities along with the huge amount of stuff it puts on above what the likes of Hop Farm does.
If you seriously expect Glastonbury to compete on money terms then Glastonbury will not be what it currently is.
Michael told me that The Eagles wanted £2M. He can't hold a gun to their head; if they won't play for what Glastonbury can afford to pay that's the end of it.
I'd seriously question if The Eagles have any commitment let alone interest in what Glastonbury stands for. If they did Im sure they would have played for a lot less - it's fairly obvious that acts like Springsteen, Roger Waters and U2 are prepared to reduce their normal fees by a huge percentage for the right reasons (as well as the airtime of course). I remain completely mystified by the absence of Pulp - it just doen't make sense.

Do you just get tickets from 9 tomorrow from the See website? Like the same place where the other ones are on sale?

Just seems like he realised people hate advertising so he thought he'd do an unbranded fest to catch those people too. Like his stake in Glasto isn't enough.
Whatever.
As for the stake in Glasto you probably mean Melvin Benn/Festival Republic who do R&L and Latitude. Festival Republic was a splinter from Mean Fiddler to concentrate on the festival part of the business. I think the story is that Mean Fiddler starting helping out with/managing certain part of Glasto (mainly security and infrastructure I think), Festival Republic then split from (but was still owned by) Mean Fiddler to concentrate on festivals, the rest of Mean Fiddler was sold.
I think that's the link between Glasto and Vince Power in a very basic way.

Eavis - "Oi Beyonce, do you want to play Glastonbury?"
Beyonce - "Yeah sure!!! I loved it when my husband played".
Eavis - "Great. Now, we are trying to book Prince, would you like to play second to him?"
Beyonce - "Hmm I'm not sure, but I can't really turn down second to Prince! I am debating taking second at some other festivals, I may not be established enough as a festival artist for headliner"
Eavis - "Exactly. How about if we can't book Prince, we will announce you as the healiner. We will need to wait till 8 weeks before the festival, but it will be a big announcement! Lots of pulicity, perfectly timed with your new album coming out. If we do get Prince, then same thing really".
Beyonce - "Perfect".
