Because I'm great at annoying both sides of an argument... I will now contradict myself and say that in some cases the camera means I actually see MORE.
I will spend a bit more time looking at and considering the various 'art' etc available, not just taking pictures, but considering why I'm taking a pic and what I'm trying to get accross with the pic, so perhaps appreciating it a bit more.
For instance, I doubt I would have got 'involved' with these lovely people by lying on the floor and letting them 'attack' me if I wasn't looking for an interesting photo.  (Not actually a very good pic, ironically enough - metered on the sky it seems.)

Awesome pic geebus!
A bit of shadow depth changing could improve that pic.  Will have a go if you give me permission as I think the metering if pretty good as a blown out sky would dire.  You got the sky perfect and some retouching could help out the characters.

Take a fanny pack.

But srsly, they are damn handy and you can call it a "money pouch" if anyone questions. The only things I carried with me last year was my camera, money, ticket, tissues and hand sanitiser. It sounds like a fair amount, but it is no hassel at all.

Think I'm with you on this Geebus I get bloody anxious trying to capture the moment but inadvertently removing myself from it. Mah just pick up a disposable for a few quick snaps. Otherwise I know I'll end up at stone circle f**king around with the settings trying to capture the sunrise instead of looking at it. I love having mementos but I've got so many pics I never look at. I'm not a bad photographer but sometimes it demands too much attention. However, the photography walk is a very good idea.

With regards to the bag a fanny pack is an excellent shout. I want to be able to bounce round like an idiot and think it might be quite liberating to roam around with no stuff. I don't drink so carrying booze isn't an issue

I usually carry a bag around during the day, then go back early evening and change clothing, add jacket and combat trousers.I then leave the bag in the tent.I have plenty of spare pockets for a camera, some cans, spirits, pocket sized waterproof, hand sanitiser etc.
Sorted!

i like to bring a cheap but decent enough small digital camera and have it in my pocket incase i do see anything different and interesting that not many people would photograph,or for photos of mates of course,( in a drunken messy state!  :P ) most photos would be quick shots of us all.

I might take one or two quick photos if parts of fest looks really brilliant as im walking round or chilling in one spot and the pic wont be done by everyone else with a much better camera anyway.

Taking pics of bands is really worth it tbh, thats one time you can save for enjoying the fest instead of documenting it!.

i dont like to be too busy with camera myself when at glasto, maybe just a busy few minutes for the first day or so, then the rest of time spent admiring the festival through your own lenses!

Its better going back and reminscing from seeing the profesionals excellent photos.

Sorry if already suggested, but the canvas bags they handout when you first enter the site are ideal for a few cans, bottle of vodka, hoodie, etc. Always think I'm going to come back to the tent empty-handed, but this never seems to happen.

I totally get your no-camera dilemma. I usually dont bother taking a camera with me when I'm going for gigs / trips with friends coz most of my mates are the "must capture every moment to show home" type of people and I can just snag photos off of them. However, in this case since there's a high chance I'll be wandering off alone looks like I'm going to have to bring mine.

Having said that, I absolutely hate the obsession of taking pictures once a camera is available. Being camera-free often means more freedom to enjoy everything for me.

True dat. I am also weirdly susceptible to groupthink, completely against my will taking pictures of stuff cos other people are. Insane!

Went to a gig the other night and resisted any impulse to take any pictures and felt like i was 100% focused on the musician, the lights, the atmosphere and came away feeling like I'd had a richer experience.

I'm just going to try to look at the stuff and remember it. My memory ain't too shoddy (yet).
