Have to say I don't get it. I've been to Glasto 11 times and alternated between Big Ground overlooking the Pyramid and Pennards. Last year as the site seemed packed by silly o'clock on Wednesday morning I was forced into Dairy Ground. I've never experienced a place with such a horrible, zero atmosphere. Crammed in like cattle and nobody talking to each other. Felt like V Fest or something. We tried to get to know our neighbours and it was like 'why you talking to me? go away'.

Horrible lifeless place in my opinion.
Lol, I doubt you get certain types of people in different camping grounds! Think you were just unlucky!

People have definitely reported similar neighbours to the ones you're describing in Pennards. It really is the luck of the draw. I've camped on Big Ground, Williams, Spring Ground, Paines, Dairy - and got on with my neighbours everywhere I've been. Our first lot of neighbours in Paines were a bit stuffy but we just kept talking to them until they gave in!

EDIT: I had no trouble chatting to our neighbours any of the times I've been to V either!

This will be my 11th Glastonbury and I've camped in Dairy Ground the last 3 years, last year the atmosphere was lacking from previous years. And we did get robbed last year on the 1st night, luckily we dont keep cash in our wallets so it didnt ruin it completely and after reporting it to the Stewards on the last day we got it back. There was a few people around us that got things stolen too on the friday, but this is the first time this had happened.

But this hasnt put us off and we are heading back this year its just really handy for a lot of things, and you can still get a decent nights kip if required!

Actually, now you come to mention it, I'd completely forgotten about the wave of tent thievery that's been washing over Dairy in the past couple of years.  :(

I've "stood guard" at the campsite on many occasions, watching hooded individuals wandering randomly about peering into tents.
Followed a couple and spoke to them. They... had an easily identifiable regional accent, and claimed they couldn't remember where they pitched their tent. Considering the variety of tents they were peering into, they obviously couldn't remember what their tent looked like either.
As they left the area, I realised they weren't wearing wristbands either.

Told the stewards. Got a bit paranoid afterwards, and realised that there were a *lot* of people wandering around Dairy without wristbands....  Meh....  :(

I along with a number within our reasonably large group have been thinking of making a move away from our usual pitch up on Hawkwell by the tree. As a few of the team are arriving by and leaving by bus they have suggested a pitch near Gate A but in between that and the J P tent, some want to stay put but I on the other hand, with my wife and a couple of others want a total move and are more focused on up by the park and Dairy Ground or surrounding area, due to the fact there seems to be more to do in the surrounding areas.Anyone got any feedback on either of these, such as length of time to walk to Park area from the bus drop off and Gate A etc?

All feedback will be welcome.

Cheers

i often camped up at the Dairy Ground as for various reasons i usually can't make it before late thursday or friday and the first time i had this problem it made the most sense to go there. Yes it's a long walk to pretty much anywhere (apart from the park) but with a friend running a stall right in the heart of it, I only really go up to my tent to sleep for a few hours a day. the views over the site are lush up there, and i found the athmosphere always were nice.

We saw thieves, mountiebanks, vampires, werewolves, and even the Frankenstein monster in Dairy last year - definitely a place to avoid.....

Unless it was the drugs?

There seems to be a perception on here the type of festival goer that camps in a particular area.

I've never seen any particular difference in the three spots I've camped at since I started going. The vast majority of people around you are sound with the odd dick here and there. A bit like the site as a whole really.

I doubt there's any particular camp you could go to which would fully protect you from being robbed. Its been said on here a thousand times but for leave nowt and use the lockups!!!!

I couldn't tell you whether we've been targetted in the past but unless they were specifically looking for dodgy smelling Lenor bottles I'm pretty sure they'd have found nothing worthwhile.

Well you've made my mind up and it looks like we might just join all you good people up in Dairy. It was a bit of a job trying to persuade some of the others but I think I might have just and bloody well done it!

We're are nice bunch that have a good sense of humour and are always up for a laugh.
You can't miss us as well be a large (ish) group mainly comprising of Scottish folk. So cheers for all of the advice and hopefully see you all in a field very soon!!

Well, that's the question, isn't it?

There are always a sizeable number of scallies "encouraging" festivalgoers in the car parks to give them tickets, money, passports, mobile phones, etc.
I can only assume that a large number of people have been coerced into that (never go to the carparks alone, especially towards the end of the festival).

Also, there is still, allegedly, a problem with bribery, but that's just word-of-mouth, I don't know how true that is first hand.

You've just reminded me of the terrifying big-headed people in Shangri-La in 2009.
Definitely *was* due to the drugs...   :P
