No I wasn't boasting about my kids! I was just making the point that you don't know what outcomes attending festivals can lead to when you are young and impressionable. It could have been a less fortunate outcome  :(

As a family holiday I would rate Glastonbury higher than any Disney theme park

No. I really like Glastonbury, really like Glastonbury, but five days in a muddy field with 100,000 pissed up students and some awful Britpop bands just does not compare to Disney World. And I don't even have any children.

Of course, if you've only ever been to EuroDisney I can see your point - it's run by the French; nuff said.

To conclude - I'm so relieved that I'm not someone that would keep a child from the experience of Glastonbury with their family for 2 days off school just in case they have a question in 3 years time in a GCSE that means they get a C and not a B in History.

Which is fair enough, but out of interest, would you do it if it meant they got a D instead of a C in GCSE Maths?

I'm taking the family to Disneyworld in August (not taking them out of school has made it cost an extra £1k but rules is rules :) ) and I've barely given it a thought. On the other hand Glastonbury is rarely out of my thoughts.

our yr 10 really really struggles with maths.
Do you know if the school offers GCSE Maths clinics? It would be also worth enquiring if they have a Maths intervention worker/team. If so, I would be surprised if they haven't already flagged your son up as he sounds like someone who will be aiming for at least 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths (high schools are VERY interested in students who fall into this category!).

Take no notice and take them out. You won't have a problem.

so far they've referred him to pastoral care for workshops in coping with exam stress, he has a lot of 1-2-1 maths outside of school, will hopefully see if the Ed psych can put him forward for a dyscalculia assessment and see where we go from there- like I said he's expected to hit a-c in more than five subjects... for example he's working well above targets in subjects like psych, English, geography, history... even in d&t... but his maths is well below national average, and in science his classwork great but modular tests not so much.... bit of a waiting game now but we'll stay on the ball about it and hopefully get somewhere!! cheers
