lets speculate

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has revealed that there will be a secret appearance on the festival's Park Stage this year from a band who are potentially big enough to headline the event.

Eavis was speaking in NME's new free 16-page guide to this summer's festivals, which comes with the new issue of the magazine. It's on UK newsstands tomorrow (May 4) or available digitally.

Asked about the possibility of Radiohead playing a secret set at the event, Eavis denied this, but did say that they have a huge special guest in line. "We do have a special guest on the Park Stage that's a really big thing for us," she explained. "It's a band who could potentially be headlining."

Eavis added that she believed the special guest would draw such a crowd that the organisers "might have to close the field" as they did last year when Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood played an unannounced set.

To read the rest of the interview with Emily Eavis and festival-related chats with The Horrors, The Drums, Katy B and The Vaccines, pick up the new issue of NME.

Glastonbury takes place on June 24-26 with Beyonce, Coldplay and U2 set to headline.

Just posted this in the Park special guest thread, I'm going for Pulp or Kasabian....hoping the Strokes :)

Although I reckon this might be the usual fairy tale....Like that 'massive' 'crowd crushing' band....The Klaxons

i reckons its kasabian. perfect little slot for them to try some new songs for new album and then throw some classics in at the end.

Is JZ camping at the festival?
When she says 'could' headline, does that mean they haven't already (no pulp), or is that reading too much into it?

Hehe,

Saw Caribou a month or 2 back, good stuff and James Blake sounds great, reminds me of Jamie Liddel!

pulp, kasabian, killers kol or feeder, but then "could headline" means they haven't before????

although thom's wink and "I'll see you next year" as he left the park stage leaves me wondering.....

Gaaaaargh..... was already in clash hell for the Friday and Saturday and had decided to sacrifice the park stage slot on the Friday for the pyramid.... now I just don't know... we've done quite a few of the park special guests and never been disappointed, but if we sit there thinking one of the above is going to come out and we end up with Jayz or kanye I cannot deny I'll be a bit f*cked off, will be sacrificing biffy and a decent spot for u2 if we do this

The bigger guest (in my opinion) was Friday last year, how did it pan out in previous years?
Friday to tease people away from spending ALL day at the Pyramid queueing for U2, and making it a bugger to get back to the Pyramid afterwards.  Or Saturday if they think Elbow will be overcrowded (I think not).  Or it may (definitely does) depend on what day the band in question have free.
