Phew. No other band selling out has annoyed me as much as them, they used to be so good. Their mother needs to grab them and give them a shake and ask them what they are playing at!

I really like Come Around Sundown, one more album to roll around and they will back in the swing of things. Because of The Times was my fave so probably why I still like them.
Sell out is a bit strong, you can't blame them for wanting to headline when they were clearly the best thing in their genre at the time of the 3rd album. I enjoyed Sex on Fire for a while it just got murdered to death by Radio 1, M&S, Next etc etc.
Sure they might be back at Glasto in 2015/2016 when they're redoing the first two in full?

They were very dull headlining v last year. Caleb coming out with shite like it was the best night of his life doesn't resonate either

If they carried on in the same vein as the first three records though, they would have headlined. They didn't need to change.

They headlined before the fourth album was released, so they definitely were considered as headliner material in their pre Sex on Fire days. Glasto were ahead of the game.

Yeah thats what I mean. They'd worked their way up to be one of the biggest bands in the world from those three records, and would have gone into Arcade Fire mould, critically and commercially aclaimed, but then they changed.

it's a tricky one - did they deliberately change their style, or just a natural progression? I guess we'll never know. I enjoy the last two albums, but absolutely not a patch on the first two - which were raw and energetic.
I still think they're a cracking band - but have split opinion, gained a lot of new pre-pubsecent fans and lost a lot of old ones. Ce'st La Vie.

Not so sure about that. They were never commercially that popular or popular with the critics before they changed. Since then they've become huge but the reviews have got worse.
I was indifferent until 2008 when I went along as there was nothing else I was bothered about. They were as dull as can be.

Youth And Young Manhood went in at number three
Aha Shake Heartbreak went in at number three
Because Of The Times went in at number one
Youth And Young Manhood got five stars in most places, Aha got four, and Because got a decent mixture of fours and fives.
I was a massive fan. Because is one of my favourite records ever. I loved them in '08. Unfortunately I had the pleasure of seeing them headline Reading in '09.

Ah fair enough, didn't realise they were that popular early on.
I like a few songs scattered across their albums but never bought anything, found them boring live though.

I've cut and paste this for the Elbow threads. Hope you don't mind.
