Been looking through these forums, and in relation to Green Day headlining this years festival quite a few people were saying how they would not only not headline this festival, but would probably never play the festival again. Why is that? I've had a quick look at the videos of their set in 2004 and it looked good to me. Did they have an argument with the organisers over something, maybe pay?
Thanks.

Bands playing or not playing the festival is very rarely due to how good they were last time they played. I think the only person saying that they're unlikely to play again is a member of the efestivals team who doubts that they'd be considered relevant to the market that FR are aiming the festival at, possibly due to information that he'd heard. There's a thought going round that they don't like doing festivals and prefer to do their own shows because they can play 3-hour long sets at their own shows. Maybe it's due to money; they'd be an expensive band to book but also maybe they make more money from their own shows. And possibly they just prefer to play to a crowd full of committed fans rather than a mixed-bag at a festival and they've got to the status now where they can choose to do what they want.

In an interview Melvin Benn was asked whether he would consider booking them for 2012 and he was silent for a very long time (as if he was trying to think of something to say in order to cover up, as a lot of bands for next year will booked already) he then replied saying 'it would be a fantastic thought'. They are always rumoured and maybe next year will be their year.

Really doubt lots of bands for next year will have been booked, they will probably be talking to possible headliners now but not getting signed yet.

They are still booking bands for the other stages now and there's no point booking mid mainstage bands for next year as in that time too much can happen.

i'd hazard a guess that by christmas the headliners will be in place, or the latest by the end of january.
i agree with the stuff about green day though, they have such a long set that it would be wasted at any festival, unless they managed to persuade the organisers for a 3hr set, which wouldn't happen

I disagree with what Neil said about them being irrelevant to the market. Maybe not as much as they have been but would still be a huge booking and draw a great crowd. (Judgement may be clouded as I've been waiting 7 years to see them

in this thread, no one actually knows anything but think they do.
Eavis has headliners for Glasto 2013 & 2013 booked. It's all dependant on when they meet.

I'm sure it varies from band to band. Didn't Melvin Benn say he'd been in talks with Muse for 18 months? That means he was planning a 2011 headliner not long after the 2009 festival had finished. For the biggest bands they can probably do that as they know that they'll still be a demand for them, and also they'd need to due to the competition from other places for them.

It's 10 years too late for Green Day now.

I imagine they do focus their attention to next years festival around now, after they're finishing off final bookings for this year, Didn't Melvin say that at the 09 festival, he managed to book 2 headliners for 10?

I wonder what he'll do if one of his 2014 acts becomes an absolute joke between now and then. As in someone who would make the festival seem laughable. If he's signed the contract and got it all booked.

eavis must of booked his headliners for this year, in the last year though, he wouldnt of known u2 will pull out. i cant imagine him booking 3 headliners for 2011 2 years ago, and then telling one of them, actually, u2 are playing this year. i cant see that a promoter would book a band that far away. maybe negotiate, yes, but not book.

Eavis said in an interview that his 2013 headliners are pretty much sorted.
