is early entry worth it or will it be easy-ish to get camping spots still turning up at,say,9am on the thursday?

There's a thread a few pages back (think it's called begginers help (sic)) that discusses the merits of turning up on Wednesday. In short, you can get your tent set up and shopping done on Wednesday afternoon/evening allowing you a stress-free Thursday, and an extra night's drinking and frolics. Whether that appeals to you is up to you. There will be plenty of space left on Thursday morning (especially at 9am) but not necessarily any space right outside the arena entrance.
^This is all for Reading, but I can't imagine Leeds differs much.

I dont see the point in buying early entry tickets online. Every year you see people panicing and buying them on ebay for an overinflated fee. I have had early entry the last few years and payed at the gate every time.

I thought they stopped that last year? Or was that just another thing to try and stop people turning up early?

You used to just be able to slip the guy at the gate a tenner to get in on the weds.
I think the clamped down on it last year (probably because of the popularity of turning up on Wednesday)
When i went through the gate they were turning away people who did not have a Wednesday pass, which seemed dumb but thats what was going on at one particular entrance.
I for one have gone on Wednesday for as long as they offered it. I think its great, i can rock up in the afternoon so i dont have to get up too early. Pick a good spot and chill out. It is always fun watching people come in on thursday morning knowing they have been up since like 6am and are knackered from waiting in a line, then struggle to find a space.
It has been getting busier and busier each year on wednesday though

I remember the good old days when there was no early entry, everything was due to open on the thursday but there was too many people outside so they had to let everyone in. Then some bastard had a brainwave and decided they should charge for it!

Not long after that there was the good old days when you could drive straight onto the campsite on a wednesday night. Give the guy on the gate a ton and he would slap a wristband on ya and send you on your way.
I miss the days when my car was literally a 5 minute walk from my campsite

YES!! now we are talking, I think the only year I was able to do that was 2003, my first year. Car was parked next to the river, 200m from my tent. Actually in 2004 I think we parked by the water park thing is, somewhere around where the fair ground is now.
What year did they actually start charging for wednesday entry? 2004/2005?

I camped in green for the first 4 or so years, then one year half of it was flooded, so we opted for yellow, right near the arena entrance, love it!
