As a techno purist snob, I see it as a bit of a sellout   Electronic music for people who aren't quite confident enough to accept that you don't always need a drummer and some music sounds better with drum machines.

Massive Attack were unintentionally comic about this at Big Chill. Two drummers with huge drumkits trying to find something to do during 'Teardrop', etc.  When they did start bashing the drums it just sounded like a mess, ruining the incredible production of the tracks.

Also when the Prodigy got confused in 97 and started doing gigs with a guitarist, trying to find something to do in the 75% of tracks that didn't originally sample an electric guitar.
