Not strictly jazz, but the dude is playing two saxophones at once and that'll do for me.

I was expecting Polar Bear to be there, really loved Peepers and through them discovered Acoustic Ladyland (same drummer) who are pretty awesome - although disbanded, so no chance - too.

I couldn't agree more!

OK there is some fairly good stuff, a few must sees and I'll probably find something good whenever I fancy some music but overall the bill is very safe and lacklustre.

I can't see any music from Africa (Staff Benda Bilili and Femi Kuti were highlights for me last year); no jazz at all and apart from BB King and Eric Bibb not much blues. Renaming the Jazz/World Stage to West Holts seems to have led to a lack of variety.

Please tell me I'm wrong and point me to loads of Jazz/World /Blues/experimental stuff on smaller stages that I've somehow missed.

World and African Stuff - Though I'll agree it's not as strong as last year on African music, there's Master Musicians of Joujouka (from Morocco) and Mulata Astake (from Ethiopia).  Also, Omar Souleyman from Syria is a must see and pretty damn 'experimental' for an afternoon slot on one of the larger stages.  See also Nicholas Jaar from Chile.  Dengue Fever are from Cambodia (by way of LA) and although their music is western in form, it's still slightly trippy sung-in-Khmer stuff.

In terms of jazz/blues, there's Bourboun St. and Australia's CW Stoneking in the Avalon (hadn't heard of him myself until a an earlier thread on here.  Good stuff, if slightly pastiche-y).

For African music definitely check out Mulatu with the Heliocentrics but also Fools Gold. Although from LA their sound is very afrocentric. For wider world music West Holts also has Ziriguidum (Brazil), Jah Wobble & the Nippon Dub Ensemble and Narasirato from the Solomon Islands

Heh - just noticed that Omar Souleyman (Syria) and Fool's Gold (American Israelis) are playing after each other on the Saturday.

Let's hope the subject of the Golan Heights doesn't come up backstage, eh?
