I never said that was the only reason that they'd play. But it adds to their case. I said in my original post that I feel they'd get a reasonable crowd as well, and to people who are more a fan of mainstream rock, they may be a draw, given the arena tours and significant airplay from MTV and Radio 1.

Except it doesn't build to their case 'cause it's not a prerequisite, clearly. They have a very intense niche audience, they'd get a very Arcade Fire-type crowd granted there was a suitable alternative in the NME (Deftones please)

Bollocks. Reading demographic includes lots of teenage girls. Lots of teenage girls are more likely to listen to 30STM than Arcade Fire.

Hah, no. In my Sixth, I'd say about 1 girl likes 30STM. Arcade Fire however, about half the female sixth.
Yeah, it's a close anecdotal evidence, but it's as good as we'll get! Indie is a much bigger movement than this Kerrang type thing.

Really? But in my head MCR lead this 'Kerrang' thing, and they'd share a lot of fans with 30STM, so 30STM's crowd wouldn't be much more of a 'niche' crowd than MCR...

Exactly the point I was making. I wouldn't regard 30STM as a niche audience at all, the idea of the 'echelon' or whatever it is seems completely created to me. Making themselves a 'cult' intends to make themselves sound more interesting, like they really offer the people something. In reality they don't have much of a niche fanbase, they appeal to people who like fairly boring arena rock. I know people who were going to a date in Cardiff on their last arena tour purely because they found Leto 'hot', finding their music as nothing more than 'ok'.

Niche isn't necesarrily a positive term like cult is, I'd say 30STM have a very niche fanbase in that it is mainly young females who are interested in the lead singer. Their window of appeal is rather narrow.

Can't someone just go onto their facebook page and see if it's mostly made of teenage girls or not?

From what I've heard, they went down well at Download - and the average Download goer is probably harder to please than most Reading people, and the crowd there doesn't have anywhere near as many teenage girls.

Prehaps all of the "Average download goers" went to see RATM and left all the teen girls to watch 30STM

I remember it being said that there were 80,000 at RATM, and considering there was about 100,00 altogether that means a very small crowd (comparatively at least).
And I'd of also said that 30STM fit in with the Download demographic at at least as much as R+L.

So alternatively we're looking at The Offspring, Soundgarden, Pixies or Beasties and all of them have doubts. REM aren't doing any festivals, Prodigy aren't playing, The Darkness are doing download and both Daft Punk and Tool are probably too big and it's unlikely that either would play during daylight.
Any other ideas?

I had a ton in the 3rd headliner thread but most seem like 3rd place acts apart from Jay Z who is a big sub and has been under weirder acts like Linkin Park, Coldplay etc doesn't seems likely but f**king better then 30STM.

I have no interest in Jay Z but agree it'd be better than 30STM.

Placebo?
Bullet For My Valentine?
Jane's Addiction?
Velvet Revolver?
There's also Dave opinion that Mumford & Sons who will either headline or sub?
I don't think Placebo would sub, third or fourth at the most. VR could do but Slipknot are on the festival circuit so are VR going to have time to be able to prepare with their new singer? No idea about Jane's Addiction. I think they have an album planned for the Summer but are they too far out of the loop?

Similar things have happened before with Prodigy playing both R&L & Download the same year and they have shared mainstage acts before.
With FR's logic them not playing since NIN tour might mean exclusive comeback or some shit like that, but 3rd on top seems more likely.
