For me having a different sub would completely change the festival. It's one thing that they're shit, but it's also a statement putting a band like this in a such position and it's a statement that doesn't sit well with my circumstances.

Hasn't really been touched on enough just how terrible it is having these as a Sub, makes the Paramore booking last year look like genius.

Imo both are/were really poor bookings slots way to big for bands that are not renound for being fantastic live.

However I have thought it inevitable for a long time that 30stm were going to sub, especially after paramore last year and on the back of thier arena tour.

Oh how yellow fever was wrong, and no lost prophets, unless they are making their way down the bill as special guests.

I don't really care, I care more about the fact there isn't a good alternative. What am I going to do after the offspring? Beady eye, and the horrors no thankyou. Hoping for a strong Lock up but can't really see it happening.

I've spoken a lot about how much I like Arcade Fire, and how I think FR were right to give them a shot at headlining, and for the same reason I haven't been particularly outspoken about MCR headlining, even though I don't particularly like them. But last year they put The Libertines, an undeniably massive sub-headliner, below Arcade Fire in order to cover the risk. But this year, below MCR who are beginning to look more and more risky, it's 30 Seconds to Mars. Just makes it look very weak, and outside of fans of the two bands (who undoubtedly do exist, but it's hardly everyone) there's very, very limited appeal.

Completely agree, swap them with say Prodigy or Soundgarden and it would be far more striking.

Surely Offspring would do a better job subbing.

Might as well get this back to the top..

Now, I actually quite like 30STM... in a epic driving/running song sort of way.

But honestly. Second?

30STM = Pulp + Eblow?

Really?

Friday looks perfectly fine, if you put another band above MCR.

The Prodigy would have sat quite nicely above MCR. Although they were only at R+L 2 years previous it would still be ok if they threw in some of their new material.

I was expecting something a completely different style of band to be sub to MCR (like Reading Sunday '08 & Saturday '09).

30stm are just one of those bands that seem to have become quite big without anyone really noticing. Take a look at all the festivals in europe and they're playing very big slots, headlining at a few!

I dont mind the songs but from what i've seen live could do with less crowd interaction, they never shut up!

Yeah, it's seem strange to seem to have a sub act that never played before especially under the "weakest" headliner as they will need to please the crowd and it's not like NIN or Tenacious D who are big draws in themselves yet never played before.

The festival needs new headlining acts. We can't just keep playing the same old shit over and over again. Is it coachella that no bands play the festival more than once, or have I just made that up? That way we would see alot of new bands playing the festival and a more diverse line up. But that would never happen anyway.

They've had load of acts from previous years on.

But Coachella can do that because there isn't as much competition as in the UK. If R&L only booked bands they'd never had on before then they'd inevitably be sharing bands with other festivals and then that would be complained about.

The line-up is diverse and the headliners either haven't headlined before or haven't played for five years, it's just a shame that within those parameters some of the actual bands themselves are a bit shit.
