At the risk of annoying people like myself by starting a thread about a band that have been discussed in various other threads, I'm going to start a thread about a band that have been discussed in various other threads.
Basically I know they're down as a rumour to play but can they seriously sub-headline? Do they have a big enough profile? I don't know how much airplay they get, what size venues they play, other festivals they've been at or where they've charted so can someone enlighten me?
I have four issues:
Isuue #1: They're shit.
Issue #2: I can't believe that two bands with such a similar fanbase and who anyone outside that fanbase seems to despise would be headlining and sub-headlining together.
Issue #3: They aren't big enough to sub-headline regardless of who is headlining.
Issue #4: If MCR are a borderline headliner they need a sub-headliner that nobody can seriously question the credentials of - this is where the Prodigy, although uninspiring, would have come in handy.
Discuss.

Yeah I'm still adamant they're not respectable enough to sub, haha.

In a word - no.
In significantly more words - I was at Big Weekend last year and if the audience that saw them there was anything to go buy, they'd barely pack out the NME tent let alone take centre stage as the second band from the top. Besides the fact they are shit, their music is ultimately one-dimensional and is representative of the dying genre of Emo Rock - and most who actually listened to that back when it was popular have grown up faster than 30STM seem to have. They're not likely to win any new fans (like MCR's new album seems to be doing, surprisingly) so subbing on the NME stage is probably the most I'd give them in realistic world.

last tour they had was an arena tour - yes they did play the o2 in london
HOWEVER
they only made so many tickets flog because Enter Shikari were supporting them - i know of a lot of people who went to see them instead of 30STM

Boring boring stuff.

I can't see it happening, they'll go for a very safe sub to back up the "controversial" MCR selection. If they do it's laughable honestly.

for me they are one of those bands i've heard of but have never gone any further. I wouldn't be seeing them and I doubt they would gather a big crowd. I could see them playing 3rd though.
This makes me think (or wish) we have got something special that Melvin has kept dead quiet.
We can only hope...

when i went to see them in Manchester last december i thought they was good, just a little over the top with the lights.. but 3rd maybe 4th would suit them better, but who else would sub for MCR? seriously

A brief fact profile of Thirty Seconds To Mars:
They haven't charted particularly well - their most successful singles were The Kill and Kings And Queens, which both got to number twenty-eight. As for albums, their most successful was their third and most recent album, This Is War, which got to number fifteen - however it has been certified gold, as has their previous album, A Beautiful Lie. Their self-titled debut did not chart or get any certification status. They seem to be getting a lot more mainstream exposure these days (on TV and the radio), and they played arenas on their last tour, including the O2 (although I don't know if any of those shows sold out - plus they had some heavy-duty support in the form of Enter Shikari). They also headlined the second stage at Download last year.
According to Last.fm, they were the seventh hottest artist of 2010, and have 61 million plays from 1.4 million listeners. For the sake of comparison, Queens Of The Stone Age, Libertines and Paramore have 65 million from 1.5 million, 29 million from 0.9 million and 99 million from 1.4 million respectively.

Why do people think you need a similar in style band to sub the headliner? I can sort of understand the logic, but it's not a theory that's set in stone.

Awful band, just simply awful. Perhapos one of the worst acts to ever grace the festival if they play. On top of that Jared Leto is a c**t.

Given a half hour set at big weekend and played a total of 4 songs. Jared should shut up, stop being pretentious and just play some songs

They subbed at Rock am Ring last year, but then so did Rise Against. In my opinion they are pure dog shit and if they do play I'll be as far away as possible.

Wouldn't make sense to me, they have never played before so why would they go straight in as a sub it's not as if they are NIN or Tenacious D so having them as NME headliner or 3rd would seem more reasonable and looking at the possible top 5 bands they all seem like easy bookings and I can't believe they would spend a whole year and not try to get one wow band which I'm hoping the last sub spot will be. IMO it's between Offspring (yes they're not as popular but they haven't played uk in a while so mybe that countered it) & Soundgarden for the place under MCR.
Them playing euro fests and no uk ones is worrying though.

Yeah me too, seems like this might finally be their year to play but I just can't see them subbing. I can't see The Offspring playing that high either though.

As much as I'd enjoy watching 30STM I think MCR/30STM Sunday night would be, in comparison to SP/NIN of 2007, absolutely horrific. Given a 'controversial' headliner in MCR, would they really book just a controversial a sub? It's the fact that it's Sunday that gets me most. The finale of the festival...

I'm sorry but this is utter garbage! I've checked the last 2 Enter Shikari tours and they played the Roundhouse and Shephards Bush (or I think they were the last 2). Anyway they play these kind of venues and no bigger because they haven't got the fanbase to fill a bigger venue. So what your trying to tell me is that Enter Shikari fans suddenly got to such a large number that they can be atributed to a sizeable proportion of the massive o2 with 30stm whilst the fans
A: Have to pay extra to see them (I bet they could watch 2 sets from em at the same price then they would have to at 30stm)
B: Have to pay to watch them do a shorter set then they would if they were to do their own show
C: Have to see them in a big whack off venue instead of a smaller intimidate one
I know they weren't touring around then, but to say they only sold so many tickets because of Enter Shikari is just wrong. I'd say 5% of the audience at the most were there because of Enter Shikari. They haven't got the fanbase to be attributed to a arena, nevermind when they're the support!
Anyway I hope 30stm aren't there. And Enter Shikari for that matter, they're both shit!

Did 30STM's arena tour actually sell out?
