I've been wondering where this has actually come from, is there actually a rumour that they are playing because everyone seems to think so!
If not, who could replace them

I think neither will play.

My bad, sorry.

I can see vampire weekend play, haven't backed up this theory with any proof that they will play, but i can just see them there.
Don't think that MGMT will, don't want them to either

I'm not sure there is a rumour? It's just that both of these bands were the big breakout festival newcomers of '09 (NME crowd at least) & didn't play Reading last year so it's an easy choice to speculate them being around somewhere this year.
I've heard from a variety of people here that Neill squashes any suggestion that MGMT are playing but I wouldn't rule out Vampire Weekend, but they are in no way confirmed.

okay, thank god if MGMT don't play because they are shocking live, but i would like Vampire Weekend. I think someone like BabyShambles or Kooks will play 4th on Main instead of MGMT, which would be good, but then again it could be beady eye which is annoying because they are only big due to liam gallagher! but who do you reckon would replace MGMT's 4th main spot?

Why are we talking as if MGMT were ever bolted on to that spot anyway?
But anyway, I wouldn't mind seeing Mumford at some point on the Mainstage Saturday (Reading) while the sun is still out, but what do I know?

Mumford would suit that spot very nicely actually

Could Mumford and sons even play a stage that big? I know it sounds stupid, but to me they only suit tents and small stages. In my head it just doesn't work.
Edit. Why the negatives? Eh?

I've no idea, I'm in no way saying they should be 4th down either, I just feel a mixture of their music & sun (hopefully) would be nice.

Mumford and sons may have to play the main stage. Pretty much any band is better suited to a tent but you sell as many records as they do, there isnt enough room in the tent.

Mumford on mainstage would be amazing
at around 6 - 7 would be a awesome time to play

I'd rather neither played, Vampire Weekend could be doing with a year off and MGMT are shit live.

Yes they could. They nailed it at Bestival. There was no way the crowd that turned up to watch them would fit in the NME, & Bestival is about half the capacity of Reading.

I like these two on record but I'm sick of seeing them on the festival circuit. Fresh meat please.

Mumford and sons not showing up would be awesome, couple of good tracks, but massively overplayed and over rated in my opinion, gave them a go at summer sundae, but left half way through to watch The Futureheads, best decision i made all weekend, the worst decision was missing the first half of the futureheads.
