i notice a lot of people on here are getting excited about the possibility of mumford and sons playing R/L.
i really cant believe that they have managed to pull the wool over so many peoples eyes.i swear my mum and dad(who are in their seventies) have been listening to this music for years.the only difference is that it is played by old fogies in empty pubs instead of trendy looking youngsters in festivals.
i can't believe that no-one else has noticed.
the rest of my mums collection consists of the likes of susan boyle and neil diamond, maybe the record label will find some young versions of them and somehow get NME to give them some credibility so they can play the festivals,ha ha

I dont get your point. Its the same music as some older artists so we shouldn't listen to them?

Personally cant wait to see them again

I'm pretty sure Mumford started off playing in empty pubs... its just that they've become popular.
And i would also love to see them :)

no,my point is that no-one would listening to this same music when its played by some old men in beards.its seems that the image has overtaken the reality.
obviously some older music is still good and relevant today, just not this.

But its still a bit of a non point. Why would people stop listening to good music because of somebody's image. If that was the case we should all stop listening to The Rolling Stones because they have aged alot.

I like a lot of folk music and I happen to particularly like Mumford and sons because I think he has a good voice and their music is very impressive. I couldn't give a monkeys if they were a group of mid 20 year olds or a 70 year old pensioner.

So the moral of this entire thread is... your mum should get some better albums.

We done now?

Im not much of a fan. However you have to credit a british band who play their own instruments, write their own songs and sell a million albums. Im sure image does contribute, however image also plays a major role in the big punk, metal and rock bands. So I dont think its specific to them.

maybe you dont give a monkeys but obviously others do otherwise a pile of 70 year old pensioners would have gold records and win NME awards.

Seasick Steve, is in his 70's, has a beard, loved by NME and was nominated for a Brit. And all this happened when he was old.

oh,and zz top have beards.

#note to self#  dont mention beards next time as it will divert away from the point about it being image over substance.

But thats nonesence. That means any band from the 60s wont win any awards now because their in their 70s. My point still stands about The Rolling Stones, still having platinum records and winning every award going with new materiel.

Age and looks dont come into it, if its good music its good music

It'll be amazing is they go R+L this year, I didn't go last year and after seeing them live on BBC 3.. if they went again and got the same reaction, I think they would most defiantly make the weekend perfect.
Who cares if your parents listen to them tbh, my step dad does too.

I don't know what a bunch of privately educated rich boys have to be "defiant" about.

Is 'privately educated' an insult now?

On topic I quite enjoy some Mumford and Sons. I can think of much worse things to listen to late on a Saturday afternoon.

What is it about their education that makes you hate them so much? Sure, they're not the greatest band in the world, but I think discounting a band because of their education is straying dangerously close to Liam Gallagher territory. Good music is good music regardless of which social group it came from. Like I said in the other post, Radiohead have fine arts degrees and make great music, Seasick Steve was a tramp and makes great music.

Mumford & Sons are a perfectly passable folk-pop band. At least they're more interesting than Muse.
