Okay, yes I am planning on going to Reading Festival this year and I am slightly confused what camp site to go to!

Due to it being my friends birthday the day before Reading starts.. we'll be heading down early morning on friday :) but I want to know if we'll be able to fit into any of the very lively camp sites? it'll be like 6 of us going down :/
Also, is there anywhere I can straighten my hair?
How bad are the showers too?

I don't camp at Reading, but I'd imagine if you're going down Friday morning you might struggle to get into a lively campsite.

last year we came up thursday afternoon and struggled to find anywhere with enough room to fit 4 or so tents, we were lucky though. we went to purple which seemed ok, not sure whether or not its the best, but the people around us were all up for a laugh.

and yeah i think there is a place where u can straighten your hair.

Showers are fairly average and, if I remember rightly, are a bit of a trek. Wetwipes, deoderent and a bucket are your best friend.
Friday will make it very hard to find a place to camp in the stereotypically 'lively campsites'. That said the slightly further away campsites hardly lack atmosphere.
You can rent straighteners, but they're not necessarily in the most conveniant places; does it really bother you that much for a weekend at a festival?

Ahhhhhh damn! That might mean that i'll have to go the Thursday morning and meet my friends there! I'll take their tents with me and my mate and we'll meet them there on the Friday morning. :/
Thursday morning I am guessing there will be a lot more space to pitch up?
True, I don't think I'll bother about straightening my hair tbh!
I would love to be able to go down Friday morning instead though.. as it means I can go to my mates 18th on the 25th....

Ye, if you want a decent camping spot turning up on the Friday morning isn't really advisable. Is your mate with the birthday planning to go to Reading as well btw? If not, tell them that they should.

Just get him to come with you on the thursday morning instead. Thursday morning will definately be fine, there'll be a lot of space then, it starts to fill up around midday though.

If you're aiming to get there friday morning, the morning after your friend's 18th... then you deserve a medal, as I definitely couldn't manage that o_O... but in reply to your questions... showering's pointless unless you really care that much, everyone's in the same position, everyone who isn't a Skins look-alike looks a mess by the friday evening.  I camped in purple last year, was pretty chilled out and a nice distance from the arena, I was in Green in 09 and that's a bit more hectic.  You'd be pretty lucky to squeeze 4 tents in either of them on the friday, Brown always seems alright to me, might check it out this year :)

Please don't straighten your hair. It annoys me when i see weekenders walking around with perfectly straight, clean and styled hair on the saturday and sunday. Noone cares what you look like we just wanna have a great time!

Edit - If you want your hair to look nice to pull; don't worry the girls are easy

We camped in Orange last year and and the atmosphere was decent, people were nice, not many people being kn*b's on the Sunday, close walk to the tesco & a pizza take out, not that long a walk to the arena.
But about coming on the Friday, we got there at around 2pm on the Thursday (after queuing for over an hour) and only managed to get a decent spot because friends of ours had turned up at 9am & we could just about squeeze in with them. So there is a big difference between coming early on Thursday & EARLY on Thursday, hoping to get into Reading for about half 9 this year, just to avoid all the hassle.

Purple is brilliant as it has all the best bits of all the campsites ie close to the action but quiet enough to sleep & not fear for your life. The tall hedges are great for drowning out the din from yellow should you wish to not partake in fire trolley/destroying tents. It has the hottest girls too.

If you arrive on Friday just be prepared to hike to the other side of the site (no more than half an hour once you're in) and you'll get a spot easily. It won't ruin your weekend, besides you'll only be spending 3 nights there anyway :P

We've changed the plan and my mate that is going to be 18 has moved the date of his birthday house party to the weekend before reading :) So we'll all be rolling down Thursday morning!

Be and my mates are now wondering what is the best transport to Reading? We can either drive, train or coach (what's the price)

Me and my mates have been in Red campsite for 3 years on the trot and we've never had any problems. The people are great, there's a fairground nearby and also there's the Silent Disco, which is always a good laugh :)

personally get the train. Coach might be easier. Driving involves parking etc (don't leave anything in it) but has its perks too (don't have to walk from station; don't have to lug bags on a train).

Why not think about rolling down Wednesday?

The price of the train depends very much on where you'll be coming from. http://www.thetrainl...om/buytickets/? will give you the best price (just try it for a random Thursday in a month's time or something). The 'best' transport is by car, for everybody except the driver. But it depends how drunk the driver wants to get on Sunday night!

I'd recommend car or coach - not ever taken the train to Reading and I don't know where you're coming from so my opinion isn't exactly informed though - but the queues outside the train station on the Monday always look horrendous and theres always the chance of being unlucky with the sniffer dogs if you happen to be bringing anything that you shouldn't.

I fancy a crazy campsite.

Yeah, I don't fancy the sniffers this year.

Do you know how long it'll probs be queuing for the car park on thursday morning? and price.
