So much wrong with that article.  Even if Glasto said U2 were able to bring their 360 show they wouldn't be able to as all the tour equipment will be in the States.  A stripped down set had always been the plan as its midway through their US tour.  For the Mirror to say Eavis had personally 'banned' them from having a big stage set up is just laughable.

...and this has to be made up? "Tickets for their Glastonbury appearance have already sold out with touts selling passes to the gig for up to £1,000 a pair."

I have images of eavis getting the band to do some sort of "keep it real" chant similar to that in the Ali G film...

This is a non-story really - typical Mirror/

i dont think anyone going to glastonbury or even U2 themselves thought for a minute theyd be able to put on the full 360 anyway. they'll only get 45 minutes to an hour to set up after Elbow

Pet Shop Boys last year - they bought basically the entirety of their spectacular show (floating boxes included)

i thought bands do usually bring their set-ups as long as its able to fit the stage??

of course with u2's tour being a 360 stage its pretty impossible/useless to use any kind of 360 screen etc... they will have some sort of set up surely...

im sure they wont use the same set up as other bands and will have sopme sort of screens/lights.

the best bit from that article is the confirmation (if that article has any truth to it) of a greatest hits set :D

Definitely, their older stuff is decent.

I'll probably be at Primal Scream at that stage anyway, but might try and leg it around to catch the end of them or something.

let's face it, U2 only really need Edge's guitar rig set-up, which he had last year anyway - as long as his guitar tech can still do what he needs to do, there's no need for anything else

The Mirror write some utter tosh - although i'll be happy at a Greatest Hits set.

Playing a greatest hits set would not be keeping it real from their perspective.

They'll almost certainly have a new album out and be wanting to promote it.  Why throw away one of the best marketing aids available to a band by playing a greatest hits set instead?  They've never really done that and I don't see them starting now.

I disagree.  The best marketing U2 could do is play a greatest hits set.  Get everyone back on board with a bit of nostalgia - lets face it, they were far better pre Atchung Baby, get amazing reviews for putting out a brilliant singalong set, its a full 90 minute advert for them on the BBC, and then folk are more likely to purchase what will be yet another tedious U2 album... just in case it is any good.

Playing new songs is not going to be a selling point.

Agreed, although I think Achtung Baby is far better than Rattle & Hum.

Their pre-R&H stuff is excellent though.

errr... no

for me it's their best album, and apart from Joshua Tree, their earlier stuff is generally the boring stuff (bar a handful of songs)

nah.  WAR is the best.  End of!!

Though I should have said after Achung Baby, rather than before it - that was positively brilliant in comparison to the drivel that followed!

Fair point, I think I was trying to say that there was never any way that they would get their whole rig, not least due to time constraints setting it up.

Massice Attack had their stage set year b4 last, but it was fairly simple.

I'm always rather intrigued by what people consider to be U2's "hits".  You can't get all excited about them doing a greatest hits and then expect them to play nothing from 1992 onwards - All You Can't Leave Behind spawned far bigger hits than Rattle & Hum.  Then they do something pretty radical (and totally uncommercial) in Pop or No Line On The Horizon and people have a go at that too.  They don't want Bono to get political but they do want to hear Sunday Bloody Sunday

Also can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to think U2 would do anything BUT a greatest hits set.
