alongside king of limbs, wondervisions and departing are two at the top of the pile for me at the moment. sounds like i need to spend more time trying josh t pearson.

Hmm, couldn't get into Wondervisions at all. Not terrible by any means but definitely towards the bottom of my '2011 albums I've heard' pile. Departing is awesome though :)

Uh-oh!  New contender - Helplessness Blues - Fleet Foxes.

Beautiful album, especially the title track and The Shrine/An Argument.

Maybe more bands should take 3 years to make a record and make sure it's as near-perfect as they can get it.

Oh, and 'Last' by the Unthanks (of course!).  Good year so far, this, innit?!?

Iron & Wine – Kiss Each Other Clean
Rue Royale – Guide to an Escape
Dodos - No Color
Alexander Ebert – Alexander
The Decemberists – The King is Dead
The Rural Alberta Advantage – Departing

...are my favourites so far.

I really wanted to like this album...but I don't much. I keep reading all the rave reviews but after a couple of listens it just sounds like more of the same. Which disappoints me because they were great at EOTR a couple of years back.

I'm also rather disappointed with The Low Anthem's new album. I love their first couple of albums and I've seen them play half a dozen times and their set last year was a highlight of EOTR last year for me, but there's something a bit bland about their new album.  :(

I don't know if you've read the big Fleet Foxes interview etc in Uncut but I'd read that before I heard the record and think it helped me get into the songs more quickly than I would have otherwise, just having some idea what they are about and what had gone into making them.

Good Low Anthem article in Mojo this month too.  I like the lack of stomping rockers on the new album, to be honest, but might I recommend Jocie Adams's solo album, 'Bed Of Notions' as a fab alternative, like Low Anthem with a great female singer.

Another solo album from a favourite band which I've only just heard and was delighted by is Hannah 'Unthanks' Peel's 'The Broken Wave'.  Would be well chuffed to see her added to the EOTR lineup.  Some great Youtube clips of her singing Blue Monday and Tainted Love with only a musical box as accompaniment but the album is very different.

Hannah Peel's in the Unthanks? Oh, cool: she's playing my local in a few weeks.

I'm going to chip in on the Low Anthem and say I was really disappointed at first, but 'Smart Flesh' is growing on me. Different, but still good.

Solo, or with band?  Either way, what's not to like?

With full band. Dignan Porch playing down the bill, too. I'm quite fond of them. :)

Oh, it's out there now, just need to look in the right places.  Purely on an inspection basis, you could try Helplessness Blues

She seems to be very busy playing her own gigs at the moment, don't know if she's on the Unthanks current tour (will confirm in 3 weeks - same week as Simone Felice!) but she was certainly playing with them for the last couple of years and did all those festivals last summer.  Never mind though, PP, you're still allowed to like her!

Where are your morals?! ;)

Yeah, I'd seen it was on mediafire, I just wasn't that fussed about downloading - it sounded lacklustre from what i've heard. Will check it out now though.

Last time I heard Hannah Peel she was playing with Blue Roses I think, I would have loved either or both of them to be at EOTR, if she was playing with the Unthanks you probably couldnt see her at the back! :P

Ooooohhhh, get you!!  Are Blue Roses a proper band now, then? There were only 2 of them when I saw them at Latitude, but that must be a while ago now!

Just been looking at the initial lineup for the Sage's Summertyne Americana weekend, and it looks like Richmond Fontaine are topping the freebie on the Sunday, or an acoustic duo version of them.  Then it's Lyle Lovett in the big Sage in the evening.  Canny.

Can I play

The Decemberists
Arbouretum
6 organs of admittance
Replying to my own message to say I saw Arbouretum play last week and they were superb. If you enjoyed Wolf People last year you're bound to like this.

If the powers-that-be are listening, I was talking to the drummer after the show. He said they are looking to do some festivals in the UK over the summer but had nothing set up yet.

Hint! hint!

That would be good. They cancelled a gig I'd planned to go to in favour of a german tv appearance, which was a shame.

I've only heard a couple of tunes off the new album but their last (first?) one was great.
They'd be great at eotr.

The Strokes - Angles
Radiohead - The King Of Limbs
Elbow - Build A Rocket Boys!
Vaccines - What Did You Expect From The Vaccines
The Naked and Famous- Passive Me, Aggressive You
I know it says so far but Fleet Foxes new album is gonna be amazing.
No particular order.

Probably the worst album I've bought this year.
