Comparing R&L and T in light of the MCR debate got me thinking about this. I can't find any info but in my mind I always had the main tent down as about 6000, with the Lock Up half that and the FR tent slightly smaller, although that seems like there'd be a massive difference between the main and where others can squeeze into.

Any ideas?

Is the NME tent only 6k? I thought it was bigger than that as it's roughly bigger than the Ally Pally and that's 7k+ might be wrong though.

Well that's just me imagining standing in the tent and comparing the size to Brixton, not the most accurate method.

Very true but that's the impression I got and only info I have and it wouldn't work with Brixton as they have an upstairs too. :P

You can get a fair few standing round the edges when it's properly full too

I remember reading a while back when it was increased its new capacity is 10k-12k but can't say how reliable that is.

Googled it and couldn't find out, but I did find out the silent disco is 9k which seems very high to me though.

So we know it's not 15k then.

They added the speakers & screens to the back of the tent last year which kind of makes it even larger. Check out the Slam Tent that is at T in the Park, it's a behemoth! I think Radio 1 use it as their main stage.

Perhaps a good guess can be done using this link

Yeah it was that page that I checked out first and it struck me odd that T's second stage is outdoor and their tents seem to be bigger yet the overall capapcity is around the same as Reading (is Leeds still slightly smaller? Not sure).

This is just a guess but T seems to have a music policy 'for the masses' so the stages are more equally spread for more commercial acts that will attract larger audiences rather than some of the underground/indie bands at Reading (does that make sense?).

T is miles away from anywhere & the arena is larger so it's music licence won't be as restricted as Reading to keep music under tents so that the sound from different stages gets muddled or annoys the locals.

The best thing about the slam tent is that all the sides are covered so that its always dark in there, which obviously suits a lot of the dance acts

Aye the Slam Tent is fantastic, I remember they had to close it as it was full during Justice in 08.

I've been trying to find out the capacities for ages as the NME stage is always seems to be rammed, people on other forums seem to think 10-12K

So we know it's not 15k then.

I had a look at that article is says "Coming to Reading and Leeds for the first time SilentArena present the world’s largest concurrent silent disco featuring a total capacity of 9000 people across the festival" The way I read that is 9K between reading and Leeds. I know there was two a reading and I'm guesing one at Leeds, so I'm guessing 3K in each

*EDIT* I've just found this whilst trying to find more info, http://www.silentare...Leeds Festivals it was 3K in each, looking at the aerial photos the NME is quite a bit bigger, so i recon 10-12K is about right
