Friendly Fires

Maximo played third top the last time they played the festival as well. There a quality live act with bounds of energy and show-manship from Paul Smith.
Friendly Fires just are not the same level. Plus didn't the Cribs headline on the back of their third album?

Still doesnt hide the fact that maximo were the better known band at the same stage of their career and almost certainly had bigger album sales. It would be unthinkable for the second friendly fire album to chart at two. Maximo also headlined nme tour.
Again I'm basing my comparison on the 1st album sales and venues both of which are similar and Maximo Park 1st album didn't even go gold till the their 2nd album was released which was a year later than when they headlined unlike Friendly Fires who have a gold album now. These types of bands are booked on what they can possibly achieve as they are booked 7ish months advance of the festival, it's also worth noting Friendly Fires were nominated for 2 Brits Awards (possibly the most mainstream music awards) for best British group & newcomer unlike Maximo Park who were never been nominated aswell as the Mercuary Prize.

We're talking about when they headlined not now and Cribs have never had a gold album unlike Friendly Fires.
I'm bored of this argument, I've said it's possible not definite.

My point was more along the lines of can you see friendly fires getting that high up the bill?
Also everything depends on that second album. There are lots of bands who's second albums have just flopped badly.
I personally don't see them headlining the NME stage but I'd eat humble pie if they did.

Which is why they probably won't headline NME as that album probably won't have been released before the line up gets announced. I know Klaxons got announced last year before their second album being released but their popularity based on one album was bigger than Friendly Fires

Well as I said in my 1st post and have said serveral times again since then including the post you're quoting, I wouldn't be surprised there's plenty for me to think they could but I would rather have another act.

The last couple of years have given us bigger bands than expected and bands that have played second that could be categorised as a similar stature to friendly fires, unless they headline the weaker of the three days I can't see it happening.
I'm even thinking that someone like Mumford and Son's who are more on the crest of a wave would be a better choice.
I'd prefer Manchester Orchestra but I doubt they are big enough for such a slot, they would certainly draw me away from all three rumoured headliners.

This is going to be the MCR thread again where I spend 3 pages repeating what I've already said over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

They'd be brilliant anywhere. It looks like they won't be headliners but they've surely got to be either higher up than 3rd (basing that on being 3rd before Jamie T & Faith No More in '09) or main stage during the day. That's IF they are playing.
Thinking about it, 3rd was pretty high up. Big crowd there too (as big if not bigger than Jamie T, he didn't sound too great due to a sore throat) although I think Kaiser Chiefs drew a big crowd at the same time that year.

I thought Jamie T was pretty good, not the best I've seen him but I put it down to it being a bigger stage than I use to seeing him on.

I dont see friendly fires as the type of band whos second album will flop as they arent really reliant on mainstream support to define success or failure. However for the same reason its unlikely to be a huge hit either.

Just finished playing R1BW, only played a few songs but were bloody incredible. Lots hope it's sunny on Sunday for a dance. Highlights/whole set should be put up on R1s website later & will inevitably end up on youtube.

It does look odd, but they should be good on an open stage at that time of day imo. The whole line up is an odd one this year (particularly annoyed about Beady Eye but have the Dance Stage or MCR & few pints at the back to fall back on) but it's had a bit of time to sink in & is working out nicely for me with only one clash that I'm not that bothered about.
Definitely have enough material to use, the whole first album is full of great tunes.

They might not be, if The Cribs are definitely playing people think the most realistic slot for them will be in between Friendly Fires and Interpol.
But yeah I was quite surprised to see them that high, are their songs as well known as Lostprophets, The Cribs or Cypress Hill?

Very big fan of Friendly Fires, I was really excited about their booking, seen them before and they're incredible. Looking forward to what the new album will be like and hearing the first album songs live again.
