I don't want to piss anyone off by starting this new topic, but I have heard that Friendly Fires will be playing this year although accourding to my source they don't know which stage. Personally I would love to see them play especially after 2009s performance in the NME tent. Were really good on the main stage this year at Wireless despite most of the crowd disappearing to see Professor Green. Please don't take this too seriously but what with the other threads about possible NME headliners...

Wouldn't surprise me if they did headline NME, right size, new album out soon and would make a good counter to the probable main stage headliners but I still see them as a cheap £5 tix band and would prefer someone else.

They are no where near as big as PENDULUM (who got a bigger crowd than AF) or Lostprophets and thats just 2 off top of my head. They would be 2nd or 3rd down on NME.

I guess they don't have the mass appeal as a more established band eg LCD Soundsystem, Lostprophets, The Cribs, Manics etc.
Would like to see them in the evening though. Perhaps main stage around the time Futureheads/Mystery Jets played last year.

Another source?! Beware of saying you have a source on these forums as alot of people have had enough of people saying they're in the know.
Cant see them headline, maybe third down at a push or early evening on the mainstage.

They played 3rd on NME last time and have gotten bigger since then so I could only see them moving up the line up.

Yeah fair enough, I'm not in the music industry & am not claiming this is 100% but thought it might be worth seeing what everyone thought. Perhaps the word "source" does make you look like someone who would be in the know but at the end of the day that's what it is.
Personally I would love them to headline but can't see it happening but then again they were 3rd to top last time.

They are playing the same size venues as Klaxons and their album has also done better Klaxon's too you bullshitting numpty, they have already played 3rd so they would be moving up the bill and fits in the tradition of bands not that big but big with the crowd like View, Gossip, Cribs at the time.

Friendly Fires have only released one album and that is old hat now.
The return of Klaxons was worthy of a headline slot ( despite lukewarm 2nd album ) , the return of
Frindly Fires is no way as big mate.

I'm saying it's possible not the most likely, as most years you get at least 1 non "worthy" NME headliner like Cribs, Maximo Park, Gossip etc. as Friendly Fires has either outsold or matched their albums sells and Friendly Fires are playing venues which previous headliners also played at the time.

Not too sure how good they would be on main stage, I'd say that they are more of a tent band. If they play I reckon they will move up one place and play second from top

I agree with you here, however at Wireless they were fantastic on the main stage. They brought along a mini-orchestra & about 15 salsa dancers came on stage for Jump In The Pool. Shame I can't find a decent video of it.

I would say the difference is that the bands you menioned have had singles that got good radio airplay. You get a lot of casual fans at a festival who are often more attracted to a band if they have heard a song on radio 1. Friendly fires have a cult following but havent really crossed over to the mainstream as much as the bands you mentioned.

How do you define non worthy headliner? Maximo park played inbetween their 2 albums. The popularity and radio airplay of this album contributed to their album charting at number 2 the year later. Maximo parks first 2 albums went double platinum, they have had 6 top 20 singles compared to 0 by friendly fires. Its just not a valid comparison
How do ou

Not really, you have to remember you're looking back at those bands not as they are now and Friendly Fires will be releasing a new album and this time they have a reputation to build on.

Non worthy is not my term, it came about as OKB was mouthing off about them not being the size Pendulum.

Maximo Park have never gone double platinum or even platinum unless you're combing all the albums sales, their 1st barely got to gold.

The BBC report they have had double platinum albums, depends what source you believe! Im not looking at how big bands are now, as maximo parks popularity has taken a hit. Maximos debut album had 3 top 20 singles and a load of radio play. Friendly fires no top 20 singles and little radio play. To claim that both were in similar positions at the same stage is not true.

Piss poor reporting copy and pasted from wiki...

Maxïmo Park are a British alternative rock band, formed in 2000. They are signed to Warp Records. The band consists of Paul Smith (vocals), Duncan Lloyd (guitar), Archis Tiku (bass), Lukas Wooller (keyboard) and Tom English (drums). The band have released three studio albums: their 2005 debut album A Certain Trigger, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize, the 2007 follow-up Our Earthly Pleasures, and their third album named Quicken the Heart, was released in May 2009. The first two albums went double platinum.
In 2005, Maxïmo Park released their debut album, A Certain Trigger, which sold over 300,000 copies and was nominated for the Mercury Prize in July 2005.
Notice the conflict
If they actually sold over over 2 million copies they would of been headlining festivals.

Well just shows that you cant believe everything the bbc says!
Still doesnt hide the fact that maximo were the better known band at the same stage of their career and almost certainly had bigger album sales. It would be unthinkable for the second friendly fire album to chart at two. Maximo also headlined nme tour.

I don't think Friendly Fires are at the status of being tent headliners. They just don't have the profile outside of their own fanbase. They'd probably do a good job but I'd imagine it would be the kind of booking that's seen as a risk.
