This will be my third glast and we have always camped on Pennard Hill. Was told it was the place to camp etc etc. However, we've decided that we would rather camp somewhere else this year and wonder if anyone had any suggestions on the best areas.

We were in Pennard Hill last year and it was ok. A bit cramped, but we had a decent number of us.
Also interested to hear if there are other spots worth considering.
I'm taking the old man in 2013, so will definitely be looking for somewhere quieter!
Bad part of Pennard - the bogs! I had a few boaks going into those !

Camp near the areas you'll be spending the most time in really. It's hard to say any camp site it better than another these days, all about location.

The leftfield tent is moving back to it's old location, which should hopefully mean more camping in holts for those who really fancy getting into the action.
Pennards reached the point where it's reputation as the place to camp means that its the place everyone wants to camp the last few years, in '09 the neighbours were knobs there.
I hear good things about Park home from people who've been the last couple of years, if I can't secure camping in crew area this year that's where I'll be heading. It also has the benefit of not being too much of a trek from the gate I use (in comparison to the crew area, which is the other side of the trees behind strummerville and is a bastard of a hike).

Looks like the 1971 stage will be in Holts instead of the Leftfield so Holts will still be diminished unfortunately, we loved it there 2008 and 2009. Because of the queues etc we ended up in Park Home last year as Pennards was too full by midday for our merry band. It was good but we're going to try for Pennards this year if possible.

I'm a bit stuck as to where to camp as well, normally camp in Dragons but haven't been to Glasto since 2008 and now its closed to us mere mortals.
Taking five Glasto virgins and two who've only been once before Cant do the dance village area, to post apocalyptic for me and dont like it under or near any of the pylons. Was thinking of the Park area, anyone camped there or have any other ideas?

we are moving from our usual camp triangle area-ish in Pennards this year for a change after 3 years - prolly to Park Home Ground as I have heard nice things about the place. All depends on when you get in and how many of you there are to seat though to ensure you all get in at the popular gaffs.

As we all know, Pennards and Park Home now fill up ridiculously quickly. The walk takes you in from PGD and despite arriving eventually around 1pm (with a saved spot at the edge of Park Home), Paines Ground and Dairy were certainly decent locations I noticed as we walked past them.
The bottom of Paines Ground is nicely sheltered, just one field down and over from the Park but with great speedy access to the railway track through the bottom of Park Home. You wont get the lovely view but it's quiet with good amenities.
If you dont mind a slight hoof to places, then setting up camp not too far from the PGD entrance itself allows for a speedy arrival, far less of a distance to carry your stuff in and a big bonus...FLAT! And no streams nearby.
I personally would not recommend staying in the fields in the NW side of town (John Peel field environs) if you know you are going to be Shangri La nighthawks as it one hell of a trek back. I was astonished by the distance when I went back to my mate's camp at 6am last year. We left SL at just about 5am! The excuse its near the Dance Tent is fine but bugger that.
If you know you will be a party person in the east end of town at night, living anywhere south off the Railway Track is your best bet. The highway that is the Railway Track....you cant get lost for one thing. Stay on it, try and remember which exit you need for your home field and you are sorted.
Dry weather helps for speediness obviously. From our base at the near bottom of Park, it was scootable to the Dance village in just 15 mins, Pyramid 25 tops with a crowd to get through, Jazz and Greenfields 8-10 and so on.
Its all personal anyway.

I know it wouldn't appeal to everyone but we camped in the overflow fields down by the football field last year. Loads if space, five minute walk from the car park. Ideal! We arrived on the Thursday at about midday so didn't have that much choice in the matter!

Paines was crew camping last year - booo!
Don't tell everyone about dairy or it will end up being as packed as everywhere else!

I think it depends of what area of the festival you're going to be spending most time in. We always chose towards the top of Big Ground - up near Radio Avalon/Worthy FM.
Many good reasons: good view over the site, not prone to flooding, a 24 hour cafe, Radio Avalon mast as a guide to get you home at night, cashpoints and medical centre nearby and Flushing Meadows - real flush toilets that were still clean on Monday.

Well there are 6 of us (3 couples). Pennard was ok but i think its where your most likely to attract bad neighbours.
I can remember wandering round on the sunday last year and finding a perfect pitch, however i had had a few Burrow Hills so that was forgotten almost instantly.
Ive never camped on the other side of the Rail Track.

Last three years we have ended up in the dairy field. After Pennards and Park fill up so quick, I think it is the best choice in that area. I like it because it's pretty chilled out there, it is a bit of a trek back from Stone Circle/Shamgorrila areas, but it's straight down the railway track so its just a matter of remembering your turning.

Agree with this. Camped in Dairy 2 years running, finding a space is easy and never had any issues with dodgy neighbours.

I camped near the Football Field too, in Bushy Ground, and was also a 'late' arrival. I'm going to try and get back there this year, I enjoyed being closer to the action that I had felt camping in South Park/Dairy Ground previously.
