I've been having a quick look to see if I can find out the full lineup of the 1971 Glastonbury Fayre.
So far I have found the following. Must admit a few of these I've not heard of even though I'm a few years past my mid-life crisis & I've got the Glastonbury Fayre DVD.
Arthur Brown
Brinsley Schwarz
David Bowie
Fairport Convention
Family
Gong
Hawkwind
Help Yourself
Henry Cow
Joan Baez
Melanie
Mighty Baby
Pink Fairies
Quintessence
Terry Reid - with David Lyndley and Linda Lewis
The Edgar Broughton Band
Traffic
I know a few of these have played the last few years ie Arthur Brown, Joan Baez, Fairport Convention, David Lyndley, Gong. ??
Which of these do people think will be likely to play.

Joan Baez would be incredible but it'll never happen.

She played 08, same time as the verve (accoustic tent I think). Was stuck on who to go and see, saw the verve, personally didn't like it, got a touch bored and now regret my choice.
i'm pretty sure it was her at least..

I have become inappropriately excited for a man of my years, at the prospect of this stage, having long said there should be an Old Gits stage
I would say the likely contenders are
Arthur Brown - went down very well last year at the Glade
Fairport Convention - about time they played anyway
Gong - Steve Hillage is nearly always ther with System Seven, and Gong were great two years ago
Hawkwind - More likely to be Space Ritual, I would say, who have more of the 71 line up anyway, and were the highlight of 2010 in the Rabbit Hole (apparantly there was someone called Muse on at the time, but I wouldn't know much about that.
Joan Baez - dont see why not - not my cup of tea but she played the acoustic and would be a catch for the stage
Pink Fairies - in my dreams, but even in the mid eighties they had gone a bit off, to be honest. More a hope than a prediciton.
Quintessence - unfortunately - I thought they were very disappointing last year, but they will be available and appeal to the nostalgic
Linda Lewis - I think she played a couple of years ago, so again, why not
The Edgar Broughton Band - only disbanded last year - surely a reunion opportunity not to be missed.
Even if every one is right, thats not nearly enough to fill the time, so I'm hoping for some rule bending to allow in
the Ozrics, Aswad, Stackridge, the Bard of Salford, oh my word, the list goes on.
HOwever...
Note that Andrew Kerr says "a smaller low key stage, called 'The Spirit of '71' Stage. Where there will be talks, and acoustic music, and things like that".
So, none at all is quite likely as well.
I really have given this far too much thought...

I would have thought that Terry Reid is very likely to be seen on this stage, as he's played Glastonbury a few times in recent years.
He was a name that had passed me by entirely until someone told me he was being lined up to return a few years ago (the first time he'd played since '71), so made the effort to go and check him out - and I'm very glad I did (twice - cos he was so good the first time!), he was superb.
For those people (like me
) who might not know about him, he was the guy who was first offered the job of vocals for what became Led Zep. He turned it down, but recommended Robert Plant do it instead - the rest is history.
And there's a very famous quote about him from the 60's, by Aretha Franklin: "There are only three things happening in London: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Terry Reid."

As one who is in the loop, certainly in comparison to us civilians, do you think there is a danger of this stage begin over sold - if only between the zimmer community eagerly awaiting a mock up the old pyramid complete with bussed in naked people. The footprint available where its going suggests that acts of any great appeal (Joan Baez for example)just wouldn't be practical. I got seriously caught up when this was first mentioned - just after last year I think - finally something for the old folk!. But now my intuition whispers that it might be an empty tent with old blokes talking about scaffolding.
Please tell me that it ain't so.

- that's made me laugh.
Like any stage at any festival, it'll attract the people who are interested in seeing the acts it has. How many that'll be is very difficult to quantify.

Any of the names that could cause a problem will almost definitely not be playing at all (Bowie for example... and Traffic)...
I guess...

he used to go on stage, stark naked, and yell like a banshee, sometimes playing a guitar
he was accompanied in '71 by a guy who went by the name of Jesus, playing some bongos....
absolute class
