How come people seem to have written off any chance of The Strokes playing?, Their new album is out in march so they will touring over the summer to promote that, and to me they seem like a perfect Other Stage headliner or they could even play under the headliner on the Pyramid Stage. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't write them off completely, but assuming they would be either Pyramid sub-headliner or headlining the Other, then there's only six slots available, and there's already strong rumours about the Chems, the Libertines, Elbow, REM, Biffy, Primal Scream, Arcade Fire and Pulp.

I'd write them off.
They're going to headline Reading and Leeds.

Why does this mean they wont play Glastonbury?, Glasto is in June, Leeds/Reading is in August, so its not as if they are going to have trouble fitting them both in their schedule, Plenty of bands play both festivals every year. I know that Leeds/Reading ask for their headliners to be exclusive but if The Strokes sub the Pyramid or top the bill on the Other Stage they wont have headlined, plenty of band have done something similar to this before.

They'd never headline R&L and headline Other at Glasto. It just wouldn't happen. I don't think it's ever happened where a headliner of R&L has played a lower slot at Glasto (even if we judge the lower slots at Glasto to be bigger than headlining R&L).

Plus Melvin Benn has said all his headliners are exclusive to R&L

Plenty have headlined Reading and then played at Glastonbury? Bollocks. Not in recent years.
Can't name one in out of 2007, 2008, 2009 or 2010.

Exactly-there isn't a single example of that happening as far back as 2000 (as far as I went). Reading/Leeds pays for exclusive headliners, it's one of their main selling points. Melvin Benn is in a good position to ensure it too. If they're headlining R/L they're not playing Glastonbury.

got to agree with most on here that its now pretty safe to assume they're R+L headliners and thus not playing glasto.

I'd think Reading/leeds. Also a murmour about T In The Park, so Reading/Leeds might only have them on an English exclusive. We'll find out about T on Tuesday. I'd say a no for Glastonbury thou.
