Playing all over, Subbing Main or at a long shot headlining NME against the 'Big' headliner?

Their appearance at I'll Be Your Mirror is a festival exclusive so there's no chance of Reading or Leeds.

Portishead will headline both nights, with a different stunning supporting line-up joining them each day. These two headlining appearances will be their only scheduled UK shows for 2011.

You're assuming, of course, that those are the headliners. I could see a band like Portishead in the NME tent but I don't think MCR would be - they'd be too popular with the demograpic that attends the festival to be shoved on anywhere except the mainstage.

Assuming those are the headliners I'd get rid of Muse altogether - not because of my hatred for them but because I don't see them headlining the festival this year, and if they did, Blur wouldn't be - and then put MCR on the main stage on the Friday with Pulp being the alternate choice, then Portishead being an alternative to The Strokes, leaving a gap for another band (Soundgarden) as the alternate choice for Muse/Blur...

Ah i was referring to that being the headliners + subheadliners. Bit of a shame it looks like it cant happen would have been a bit edgier that usual

Of course they are. Any band that can command Swans, Grinderman and PJ Harvey doesn't need a festival like Reading or Leeds because they already command the heavens.

I was under the impression they were playing other festivals, although they are most likely European festivals. Are they UK exclusive at I'll Be Your Mirror?

Foolishly I failed to look at the efest home page before I commented. Portishead announced for Serbia's Exit festival, which I'm sure you have all seen. I'll Be Your Mirror must be UK exclusive.

What a line up IBYM has though

Some bastard on here (cough... thetime... cough) has tickets for it and I don't. I am thoroughly envious and for the next 3 or 4 weeks I shall be debating with myself as to whether I should cough up the money for a ticket for myself and go down to London on my own and get some accomodation somewhere. I f**king despise London but I'd swim through napalm to see Swans again.

Are you going to do what I usually do when you go down there and get accomodation outside of London then take the tube in, or are you getting somewhere near the venue? (or do you have the misfortune of living there already?)

god no! no I dont live there, tried to about 7 or 8 years ago and last 4 months. far to big for this small town lad.

looking at hotels close by and got my eye on the raglan which is very close to alexander palace, works out about 75 quid a night. unsure wether going to stop from the friday or the saturday. july is going to be a pretty expensive month. got my daughters second birthday, rock werchter, ill be your mirror, need to wack the overtime in lol.

choosing a hotel close so I dont have to worry about tubes, taxis etc etc.

The Raglan seems a tad expensive for me. £75 for a single room a night is excessive - I mean I know it's London, I know it's July but jeez. If I wanted to go down on Friday and come back Monday that'd be £225 for accomodation alone, and if I wanted to bring somebody else with me it'd be even more expensive.

I've always thought the best way to do it (unless you know somebody down there) is to go outside of London because it's a lot cheaper and people feel less inclined to bump up their prices in a place like, say, Watford or Luton, and then in this case you'd get a train to King's Cross and then another up to Alexandra Palace which'd take about 15 or 20 minutes. I wouldn't recommend finding a cheap B&B in London because the chances are it's cheap for a very good reason. Pay attention to the Travel Lodges and Premier Inns as well because sometimes they can offer good deals and discounts - this is what I'll be trying to find.

thinking of closer so I wouldnt have to owrry about taxis/tubes late at night and can just get to the hotel. each night doesnt finnish till 2ish and no trains/tubes at that time of night, although portishead finnish around the 11 mark.

Aye I suppose you're right. There's a Travel Lodge I was considering that does rooms for £32 a night about 4 miles away in Enfield. Might be a bit of a cheaper option to what you had in mind if you're prepared to go that little bit further with a taxi - although it depends. They don't come cheap either. Broad as it is long really.
