I thought Id start a new thread on this. OK first things first, whilst Im happy to take the lead on organising this, it'll take more than just me. I know Luscious Lucy will assist, but who else?

Also, do we want another football match and, if so, same as last year or something more inclusive? Or do we want a different event altogether? A 'School Sports Day' has been mentioned.

School Sports Day

Egg & Spoon Race
Wheelbarrow Race
3 Legged Race
100m Blindfold Race
Sack Race
Relay Race
Tug of War
Rounders

etc

We could be split into 4 House Teams and compete as a Team for points, most points gets the Cup.

The sports day idea sounds quite good. But would it not be a bit harder to set up and organise compared to the football. A lot more items would be needed to be brought along for it to work.

I love the idea but as said would it not take a lot more organising.
On a mojor plus point though many more folk could take part in the events.
Even I would be up for some of it.. (elbowing young noodle24 in as well)  :D

Don't really need that much stuff

4 x Eggs
4 x Spoons
4 x Ties/blindfolds
4 x Sacks
4 x relay batons
1 x long rope
1 x ball/bat/stumps and 3 posts

Pretty easy/small/cheap things to purchase and transport, certainly a lot less hassle than ordering t-shirts, printing etc

I was waiting for this thread to appear.

The Sports Day sounds great.  Probably more inclusive than footy.

But before we jump into that is there anything we could we do to make the football more inclusive?

More than happy to help out with whatever goes ahead.

I liked the football, but I honestly think it's time for a change after 2 years of the event.

And with this the last Glastonbury before the Olympics, I reckon the eFestivals 2011 School Sports Olympics should be this years fundraiser.

Also since we have raised masses of money already for Wateraid in the past 2 years, what about a change of charity? Oxfam would also be a great choice :)

Just one note of caution.
The Olympic committee are VERY guarded over use of any of their branding.
So maybe we should steer away from the Olympic idea.

Was going to miss the footy.. Maybe something even better ahead

I think the footie has been great, but I'd understand it if there was a call for a change. I think the GlastOlympics sounds a cracking idea. Just get people to register on the day. Suspect it'll draw less of a crowd than the footie though.

Tug o' War would bring in the crowds but a huge rope is a bugger to carry to Somerset!

LusciousLucy approached the football organisers the day after Glasto last year asking if they wouldn't mind changing the format to a sports day so that anyone could get included and told them I was more than happy to have a go at helping sort it.I seem to recall the reply was something like 'yes please, its really rather knackering and much as we love doing it, someone else taking the reins to sort a fundraiser event would be much appreciated'.

I can't see it being too difficult to sort out...as those who know me well enough, clipboard is my middle name! A small but organised and committed committee would be needed and the biggest issue is quite simply getting the equipment on site along with personal camping gear. Logistics simply.

It's my personal feeling that we do need the next event to be far more inclusive for everybody. I love supporting the footy but it would be nice if people could all have the opportunity to have a try at the fun themselves other than just being spectators.

I've witnessed the Hemp Olympics in Nimbin in Australia and that's a bloody laugh. Setting up a sports day with all manner of races and activities will be great.

Glasto related sports/themes to be potentially included I thought about even last June were welly wanging, speed rolling (lifted from the Hemp Olympics), timed/speed tent erection, cider bus dash obstacle course (keep your cider in your pint pot) and so on. I've got plenty more ideas up my sleeve. Been sitting on them for months.

Nice one to Phil for getting this out there. Watch this space :D

Also, not having teams was a thought so that anyone and everyone can have a go. It's far less cliquey and the winners whoever they are get medals/prizes. A registration system in advance would maybe have to be set up but if its super popular, in the same way its done in the real Olympics and at Nimbin, a short set of heats can sort the vast numbers of applicants if its done on the day.

Anyhoo, got time to plan and see what people think.

@Madyokel. Is that totally true about the Olympics Committee being uptight about a sporting event that's been in existence for 3000 years or whatever it is? The Hemp Olympics have gone by that name for 14 years now and even with the association with the evil weed, the world famous event still goes by that name.
