At least a couple of my mates will be happy, they can get away early for work the next day.
My other mate will be happy because she thinks paulo is great on account of the fact that he is 'lovely'. I have no idea what his gigs are like because the feedback only contained descriptions of his hair. But apparently his hair is 'lush'.

Ever since I have gone to Rockness I have texted friends trying to persuade them to come, I won't be texting this as its just embarressing! He is high end 'filler' stuff but nowhere near headline material!

rexclark, on 25 November 2010 - 09:24 PM, said:I think people expect too much from Rockness at times. Remember a lot of people paid £99 for a ticket for this festival!Absolute pish. Paulo Nuttini is never a headliner nevermind a Rockness headliner. It's an awful booking and however you try to gloss over it there is no denying that this is a terrible booking.
Rockness did have a reputation for booking acts who bare a bit different, the whole festival had a different vibe to the big ones like TITP and Reading and Leeds but with bookings like this they've undone all their good work. C'mon, booking last years TITP headliner and someone who was 3rd down the Main Stage? Pathetic.
Yes it's a business and they have to compete but at what cost? Is it worth losing your identity and with it your original fanbase?
Some festivals such as Belladrum, Wickerman and similar sized events are not far off £90 already (if they don't indeed reach that this year. And those are 2 day events with much, much smaller acts.)
If you want 3 huge name acts and the undercard to match, you will pay £170-180 a ticket.. thats the way the festival scene is just now.
Yes they are TITP acts, but Jim pointed out to me today that pretty much every act ever booked for Rockness has been a regular or played TITP a couple times in the past.. Biffy, The View, Prodigy, Placebo etc (The only exception is Blondie!) Fair enough they have some DJ's that might not fit that, but who's to say TITP don't go book them this year!
He also takes on board that the unique electonic acts like Leftfield, Orbital, Daft Punk, Underworld are always wanted by Rockness punters.. but they can't keep repeating acts also.. it's a no win situation as you seen by the reaction that FBS was booked again.
He's went for something different, give it a chance
Anyway, this might put of the scummier side of Kasabians fans attending

I'm sorry but there is no way anyone will persuade me that Paulo Nuttini is the right headliner for this festival. The headliners set the tone for the whole fest as they have in previous years.
I also take on your point of there not being enough electronic acts that can headline so there would be repeat bookings, yet other fests who are dedicated to electronic music manage to find three acts every year (I'm not saying all these acts would be suited to rockness though)
As I've said plenty of times, the festival needs to decide what direction it wants to go and if it's a directiuon where acts like Paulo Nuttini are gonna headline then sadly I can't say I'll be too interested.

I don't know what all the uproar is about! KASABIAN, CHEMICAL BROTHERS AND PAOLO NUTINI... Epic Lads to head an Epic weekend! This is going to be such a good weekend with something for everyone! Even for the all the dance fiends out there... The Clash Tent never fails to provide a quality act on the Sunday night!

With all the negativity being said I still think the line up will be good. Maybe due to the shoddy headliners we will get better line up's for the tents.

I agree on some levels - sometimes I'm not really sure if its a dance festival or indie... However, it is a new festival and I'm willing to give it a chance - I've been every year and have loved it every year, sometimes we haven't even left the camp site for hours regardless of the acts cos its too good banter! Haha I'm sure you can relate. But I have every faith decent dance acts will be on at the same time, to bring the festival back to its roots. I think it's cool they are trying something a bit different - and also that it's suited to where the music festival is anyway - the north!!

This is complete and utter pish. Paolo Nutini? Really? Kasabian was bad enough but this takes the biscuit.
I'll hold off obviously until the lower orders and tents are announced but as it stands I think I'll pass on my early bird to someone who will appreciate it. At this rate its going to be someone who can't afford a T ticket.
I'm pretty sure the whole "oh their trying a new direction/they want to sell more tickets/give them a chance" spiel came out when the line-up for the 2nd Connect was announced. Obviously Rockness is in a far stronger position but once you start trying to become A.N.Other middle of the road pop-rock festival your flirting with disaster, especially since its not exactly in the most accessible of places to large numbers of folk.

I think this sums up the whole Paulo Nutini why was he picked situation. To me at least.
Wrote on my fb that Paulo Nutini was headlining nd theres only 2 types of responses. Those that have been to Rockness before and have a selective taste when it comes to music have replied basically slating and questioning the fact why Nutini is even considered a headliner. The other response is 'Likes' from people who have never set foot at Rockness and who's taste in music in generally centred around whats in the charts.

Oh man, I've been getting so close to getting a lot of folk from glasgow to come. Told them who has played in the past and they were plesantly surprised but now....uh oh. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be one hell of a line-up but looking at the headliners alone you'd be forgiven if you assumed it was a mini T In The Park.......which it is not and will not be.
Clash - here I come! Apart from on Saturday, of course.

I can only imagine there will be an increase in those "chart" type people due to this announcement. I can also envisage an increase in teenagers there for 1 or 2 acts and that generally cause a ruckus just off the back of this announcement (Not a dig at all teenagers as I am one myself, just stating that there will no doubt be a few more troublemakers this year)

I don't really like Paulo and I know I'll be elsewhere when he's on. I just don't think he's suited to the position he has been given looking back at the other acts that have closed the fest - Prodigy, Strokes, etc, Daft Punk even headlined a tent. I understand the need to sell tickets but regardless where he was on the lineup people who were going for Paulo would still go. I just feel there are more deserving acts to close the fest. I actually doubt Paulo will be the "biggest" act on the Sunday. I'm hoping he has purely been announced now to shift some tickets and the acts on before him will prop up the lineup for the RockNess faithful.

Sorry, have to disagree with you there. I've been pretty impressed with the coach + ticket deals so people can come from all over the UK. My home is within 20 miles of Rockness so feel lucky but have lots of friends from all over the UK who want to go, and this has been a great step forward for the festival in having this ticket + travel deal. So just saying, I don't think that's an issue anymore

Jim has booked him to sell tickets, which I believe he will. And if he does manage to sell more tickets, then the better the undercard will be overall - FACT.
How do you know this will mean the undercard will be better? What makes you think he's not already got a budget for all the other bands and anythin above this will be trousered by big Jim???
I thought when people ran a business as you say then they try to make the most money out of the least outlay. Or maybe i've been watchin the Apprentice too much...

However, I've worked doing security at events all over the UK where Kasabian have played, including Glastonbury x 2, TITP x 2, V Festival. This has included being in the pit when they played, walking through the crowd and dealing with incidents at these festivals. Plus been to a couple of gigs in Scotland where they played too. And during several of these events I have witnessed and dealt with fans of Kasabian who are scum.
Now am not for one minute saying all their fans are the same, but they do have a small minority of fans who are arseholes.. like it or lump it and its these fans that I and others would prefer to stay away from Rockness
Also note I used the
